Steelers' Wide Receiving Corps Given Big Props For 2025 Attitude Adjustment

The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off a massive win last Sunday afternoon against the Indianapolis Colts, winning 27-20 in a matchup that not many expected the Steelers to win. Pittsburgh was clicking on all sides of the ball effectively, forcing six turnovers on defense and protecting the ball well on offense outside of a late fumble. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers added with 203 yards passing and a touchdown. The offense has been putting up strong performances on a consistent basis, with everyone in the wide receiver and tight end room contributing well to the success of the unit overall.

One would expect current Steelers star wide receiver DK Metcalf to be at the forefront of the offensive success, but surprisingly, Metcalf hasn't been able to produce much within the offense in the past few weeks. Last week against the Colts, Metcalf was only targeted four times, catching two passes for six yards. Metcalf's lack of production was something he had been asked about recently, and a response to his comments was brought up on 93.7 The Fan recently. 

On the latest episode of The Pomp and Joe Show, the hosts brought up Metcalf's original comments, then turned around and made an interesting comparison regarding how well Metcalf handled himself when answering the question.

"They did need that attitude change," said co-host Joe Starkey. "Was I curious if the George Pickens experience could have happened here with DK Metcalf? Yeah, that would have been explosive, perhaps for the wrong reasons, but a whole attitude change over that wide receiver room, and really, just the pass catcher room has been great."

Bringing up former Steelers receiver George Pickens within the same comment is interesting considering how Pickens' attitude was an issue in his time with the Steelers. The comments about an attitude change inside the Steelers' locker room is a breath of fresh air compared to what has been seen in the past. Metcalf seemed to stay focused on simply winning games no matter who gets the ball more often or not.

Even though having both Pickens and Metcalf in the same locker room could have made the Steelers' offense even better, the attitude issues might have created larger problems that could have derailed the Steelers' season.

Metcalf keeping his head down and keeping the answer to the original question simple shows just how far Metcalf has come in terms of maturity, and shows the type of leadership Metcalf is bringing to the Steelers' locker room. This type of change within the team is incredibly positive, and as it pertains to going forward, this type of mentality will be important considering this would solve one of the Steelers' biggest issues on offense.

Steelers' Offensive Game Planning Needs To Gain Consistency

Within the past few weeks, despite the Steelers' impressive offensive displays, the play-calling has been incredibly inconsistent. On certain weeks, you'll have the passing game show out and look explosive, while the running game can't get going. 

In other weeks, the Steelers will look dominant in the run game, and won't be able to move the ball efficiently through the air. In the past, those games where the Steelers' passing game would fail to get going would infuriate guys like Pickens, causing issues in the locker room. 

The offensive game planning needs to gain consistency to ensure a high level of performance going forward. The attitude adjustments within the locker room that are being seen can only help out with keeping the team motivated to play at a high level, especially as the schedule gets harder in the coming weeks.
