The Pittsburgh Steelers escaped with an AFC North win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. The 27-22 victory wasn't perfect, but the division standings now only have one team at the top, with that organization being located in the Steel City. It was an old-fashioned rivalry game that saw a lot of chippy play throughout, as fans have come to expect over the years. A newcomer to the rivalry, Aaron Rodgers, played one of his better games in the black and gold, which is one of the reasons why Head Coach Mike Tomlin was able to celebrate a win after calls for him to be fired.

The Steelers quarterback threw for 284 yards and a touchdown while also avoiding any turnovers. There was a close call, however, as Pittsburgh thought it had lost possession of the ball midway through the fourth quarter. It could have been a disaster for Tomlin and co., but the team got very lucky that Rodgers actually had the football in his grasp with his knee down.
Rodgers took some time to speak with the media after the big win and he was asked about the strange receptions he had during the contest. After a ball was knocked down at the line of scrimmage, the quarterback somehow ended up with the ball pinned to his helmet. Originally, the Ravens were granted possession after a lot of moving pieces, but reply review changed the call. The signal-caller detailed a little bit about his mindset during the odd course of events.
"I was trying to get my hand on top of it and push it down and when I did I felt his โ whoever's big paw was there โ so I kind of had a David Tyree for a second and then it was kind of a battle for the football," Rodgers explained.
While continuing to talk about what happened, Rodgers made it known that Ravens linebacker Teddye Buchanan may have been grabbing at his broken left wrist. On top of that, there were some other things potentially happening after the ball jarred loose, and the quarterback acknowledged that he was not happy about that, or the possible turnover, when heading towards the sideline.
"I didn't realize at the time my knees were down. I was just struggling with it, but he was grabbing on my left wrist, which, you know... And then there was some extracurricular at the bottom of the pile," Rodgers stated. "I was just pi*sed jogging off the field so I'm glad that call went our way."
No one should be surprised that there was a little bit of possible foul play during a Steelers-Ravens contest. The two teams don't like one another, and whether Buchanan went after Rodgers' wrist on purpose or not doesn't matter. The signal-caller was clearly not happy about it given his broken wrist, and made sure to throw a subtle jab during his media availability.

At the end of the day, regardless of how the officials called the contest, the Steelers came out on top and now have a very clear path to winning the AFC North. It wasn't the easiest matchup of the year, but it arguably should be the most satisfying for the locker room. Rodgers gutted out a tough performance, despite evidently having his injured left hand targeted.
Steelers Thankful For Rodgers' Grit
Rodgers didn't go into detail about what extracurricular activities may have gone on in the pile that was formed after the near-interception/fumble. However, it was very obvious that the quarterback had some words for whomever was grabbing his left wrist in an attempt to jar the ball loose. It displays yet another example of Pittsburgh's trust in Rodgers, and both the pain tolerance and toughness he has shown while in the Steel City.
