The Pittsburgh Steelers have been an odd team on the offensive side of the ball during the 2025 season. Many fans speculated that the passing game would be hard to come by due to the lack of depth at wide receiver, but no one expected Kenneth Gainwell to be the team's second-leading receiver. He made a strong impact in Pittsburgh during the 2025 season as he proved to be a threat on the ground and through the air.

Gainwell signed a one-year deal with the Steelers during the 2025 offseason, and his deal was nearly as cheap as the veteran minimum. Pittsburgh got the running back for a steal after he spent four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, but he definitely outplayed his contract. The team announced on Friday that Gainwell was the franchise's Most Valuable Player for the 2025 season.

He leads the team with 65 receptions and 949 all-purpose yards.
With one game remaining, Gainwell has hauled in 65 passes for 422 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for 527 yards and four scores. He has been elite at doing whatever he is asked to do, and he has announced himself as one of the best receiving backs in the league. The RB was in the shadow of Saquon Barkley in Philadelphia in 2024, but now he is making it clear just how good he truly is.

Steelers Must Act Fast With Kenneth Gainwell
Since Gainwell only signed a one-year deal in Pittsburgh, that means he can be a free agent during the 2026 offseason. It is important the Steelers find a way to workout a new deal with the running back before he hits the open market if the team wants to keep him around. He has made himself a lot of money with his play during the 2025 season, and Pittsburgh will only hurt itself by allowing Gainwell to test his market. Getting a deal done sooner, ideally right after the season ends, would be the smartest move for the organization.
