The Pittsburgh Steelers ended their 2025 season on Monday night as the group fell to the Houston Texans in the first round of the playoffs, but the biggest news involving Pittsburgh is the incoming coaching change. Mike Tomlin announced on Tuesday that he would be stepping down as the head coach of the Steelers, which means the organization is going to be looking for a new head coach for the first time since the 2007 offseason when the franchise hired Tomlin. The move came as a shock to some as Tomlin announced he would be stepping down, but it is a move that many fans have been rooting for.

Pittsburgh is now searching for a new head coach, and Tomlin is deciding on what to do with his future. He could coach during the 2026 season, but a team would have to trade with the Steelers to acquire his rights, or Tomlin could sign with a television network and join a broadcast team. Another possibility would be taking the entire 2026 season off. He should be getting looks from several teams that have head coaching vacancies, and one of those teams happens to be the Baltimore Ravens

Ravens Owner Steve Bisciotti was asked about the idea of bringing Tomlin in as he held a press conference on Tuesday.

"Holy sh*t, Mike, wouldn't that be awesome," Bisciotti said. "Only if John takes the Pittsburgh job. Wow, wouldn't that be interesting. I don't know. That thing last week, maybe disqualified him from my opening, after our kicker missed a kick to let them advance. Good for Mike. Yeah, I don't know. Talk to him. I love Mike. I mean I've admired Mike for 18 years. That's really shocking that he did it that way. Yeah, that's kind of crazy."

Bisciotti was mostly joking and giving into some fan fare at the start of his answer. He was entertaining the idea of John Harbaugh going to Pittsburgh and Tomlin going to Baltimore, but that seems extremely unlikely. The owner also said that Tomlin banging his chest after Pittsburgh beat Baltimore in Week 18 rubbed him the wrong way and probably disqualifies him from the head coach opening for the Ravens.

It is unclear whether or not Tomlin wants to continue coaching somewhere else, but it is very unlikely that he would willingly go to the Ravens. That would be hard for Pittsburgh fans to see, and it is also something the Ravens probably would not do. Since Tomlin stepped down from his coaching job rather than being fired, the organization still retains the coach's rights. That means that any team that would want to hire him would have to trade for him, and that could garner the Steelers some significant draft capital.

The last head coach to be traded was Sean Payton as he was dealt to the Denver Broncos from the New Orleans Saints. New Orleans received a first- and second-round pick in exchange for a third-round pick, and nearly every Pittsburgh fan would jump at a return like that. An in-division trade is highly not going to happen, however.

Steelers' Former Head Coach Likely To Go To TV

Tomlin stepping down probably means he wants a break from coaching, but he could return to the sideline in the near future. TV networks are likely throwing a lot of money around trying to get the former head coach to join their broadcast as the coach has shown a lot of his personality over the years. He could take a year off from coaching and then return during the next coaching cycle, or he could hang up the headset for good.
