The Pittsburgh Steelers have been one of the most consistent teams in all of sports over the last two decades, and a big reason for that was Mike Tomlin. He was widely considered one of the better coaches in the NFL, but fans in Pittsburgh have grown tired of the mediocrity and constant shortcomings. Pittsburgh needed a change, and change is coming as Tomlin stepped down from his role as head coach and the organization is currently looking to replace him. This came as a shock to some, while others expected something like this to happen after the 2025 season.

Tomlin stepping down as the head coach in Pittsburgh creates a major shift in the coaching world. He was the longest-tenured coach in the league, and now a coveted job opens up with the Steelers while other franchises are wondering if Tomlin wants to continue coaching. Organizations that have been desperate for some consistency and success would obviously want to reach out to Tomlin, but it seems like he has no interest in coaching.

NFL insider Jay Glazer joined Wake Up Barstool on Tuesday morning where he gave some insight to how Tomlin is feeling.

"And I know people also say, could Mike Tomlin also come out? That's not happening," Glazer said. "Mike T's done. Everybody has called about Mike Tomlin. I probably had seven teams call me to see if Mike T would think about coming back out and coaching again. I'm like, 'No, not happening.' And then I got, I think I had all seven teams coming back again saying, 'Hey, has he changed his mind?' No, he definitely hasn't changed his mind. That's definitely not happening."

It is important to note that Tomlin and Glazer have always been close. Glazer typically has additional information to report about Tomlin or the Steelers, and his information regarding the organization or Tomlin is usually trusted. His words make it seem like Tomlin is done coaching for good, meaning he might not even consider returning to the profession years down the line.

If any reporter or insider is going to have the best information regarding Tomlin, it is going to be Glazer. The former head coach in Tomlin seems set on not coaching during the 2026 season, and it is likely that he has quietly retired from the profession as a whole.

Glazer's relationship with Tomlin is known, and the insider even had teams around the league calling him multiple times to check the temperature on Tomlin potentially being available as mentioned. Tomlin has reportedly shut every team down. This means that there would have been some opportunity for Pittsburgh to trade Tomlin to another franchise had the coach wanted to continue coaching, but that is clearly not the case. It was said he wants to spend more time with family, which probably means he would likely pursue a career in TV before ever returning to coaching.

It would have been nice for the Steelers to be able to bring in some additional draft capital by getting a deal done to trade Tomlin's rights, but that seems extremely unlikely now.

Steelers Fans May Never See Mike Tomlin Coach Again

If Tomlin makes it clear that he wants to pursue a career in TV or media, he is going to have every opportunity imaginable. He has been a quote machine throughout his career, and any broadcast network is going to be throwing money at him to get him to sign on. He won't have to coach another day in his life if he does not want to, and it seems like that is the way that things are going for the former head coach. He may also look to take a year or two off before signing on with a broadcast network or media company.
