The Pittsburgh Steelers' 2025 season ended in a disappointing way after a 30-6 blowout loss to the Houston Texans, in which the Steelers' offense failed to score a touchdown. While the season wrapped up in brutal fashion, it was one of the most entertaining in recent memory. While frustration over the end of the campaign is understandably at a fever pitch, this season was not without its good moments.

Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has nothing left to prove in his Hall of Fame career, but after a disastrous two-year stint with the New York Jets, Rodgers did not want that to be the last chapter in his story. Rodgers led the Steelers to an AFC North title, beating the Baltimore Ravens twice in the process, including a Week 18 thriller in a winner-take-all game to clinch the division. If this was the last season in Rodgers' career, which is unknown currently, he has nothing to hang his head about.

In a postgame interview after the Wild Card Round matchup with the Texans, Rodgers spoke about the 2025 season.

"There's a lot of special moments I'll think back on," Rodgers shared.

Looking back on the Steelers' past year, Rodgers isn't wrong. He started in Week 1 with a revenge game against his former team, the Jets, in a 34-32 win, throwing for four touchdowns and no interceptions. For a Steelers team that hasn't had a reliable answer at the quarterback position since Ben Roethlisberger retired, Rodgers gave many fans hope. While the Steelers and Rodgers knew this would be a short-term commitment, unlike the 18 seasons Roethlisberger spent with the Steelers, Rodgers brought much-needed competence and stability to a team that was in desperate need of them at the quarterback position.

Rodgers had a solid statistical year, going for 3,322 yards with 24 touchdowns as opposed to just 7 interceptions, while also having a 94.8 quarterback rating. Make no mistake, Rodgers was a much better option for the 2025 Steelers than anything else the Steelers had available to them, and the pairing getting an AFC North title is likely to be looked back on as a positive experience once the pain subsides a bit from the trashing the Texans gave the Steelers on Monday night.

The Steelers Are At A Crossroads

Despite former Head Coach Mike Tomlin having a landmark streak of 19 consecutive seasons without a losing record, the team has struggled in the playoffs lately. After the Steelers' most recent playoff loss to the Texans, the Steelers have now lost seven straight playoff games since the 2016 season, tied with former Bengals head coach, Marvin Lewis, for the most in NFL history. There's no denying that Tomlin is a legendary coach who will go down in NFL history as one of the best and most consistent of all-time. However, it's fair to ask if his best days are behind him.

Despite back-to-back playoff appearances and this year's AFC North title, the Steelers' arrow may not be pointing up. They are a veteran-laden team with the highest-paid and one of the oldest defenses in the NFL. With Tomlin resigning there is sure to be a lot of change not just throughout the coaching staff, but with the players also.

Rodgers is right that the 2025 Steelers season had some good moments. This was a team counted out at every turn by the fans, oddsmakers, and media, and despite that, rallied around each other and won the AFC North division. With that being said, the Steelers have to get over this playoff hump. The fans who showed up and showed out to create an amazing playoff atmosphere for the Steelers' home playoff game against the Texans, despite the losing record, deserves answers.
