The Pittsburgh Steelers are deep into their head-coaching search and depending on what happens in the NFC Championship Game, the team can get its last in-person interviews done sooner rather than later. The organization could be closing in on a final decision being made, but if the Los Angeles Rams end up going to the Super Bowl, it could take two more weeks for pen to be put to paper for the new leader in Pittsburgh. There is a lot of excitement and anxiety going around the fan base in a time like this.

It sounds like Anthony Weaver's second interview with the Steelers went well, and he has emerged as a finalist for the job. As a defensive-minded coach, many fans have questions about how he would assemble his offensive staff. If he does get hired, there is one name that could become the immediate favorite, as Tom Pelissero posted on X about a name to watch around the NFL for an open offensive coordinator spot.
As offensive coordinator searches ramp up, one name to watch is Bobby Slowik.

Just two years ago, Bobby Slowik was seen as a hot head coach candidate after being part of an impressive turnaround with the Houston Texans. Unfortunately, the sophomore slump hit hard, and he was fired after the 2024 season. He was then hired to be the senior passing game coordinator with the Miami Dolphins, and it seems like he could get back to calling plays very soon.

After Slowik left, the Texans' offense continued to struggle to get any sort of consistency as it finished in the bottom half of the league. Quarterback CJ Stroud did not take the next step that he was expected to, and he became a massive turnover machine in the playoffs. After seeing all that, there is the idea that maybe it was not his coordinator's fault back in 2024 that led to the offense struggling.
The big question for the Steelers — if the team hires Slowik — is what are it is going to get from him? Will it look like his first season in Houston or his second? If the Steelers can get the version of him that made the offense look frightening and dynamic in 2023, it would be a slam dunk hire with the potential of a quarterback finally being developed in Pittsburgh for the first time in over 20 years. It seems as if, however, the only chance would be is Weaver is named the head coach.
Even if Slowik did have a hand in the Texans' offense struggling, he's still just 38 years old. There is the always the chance for a young coach to learn from his mistakes and figure how to be more efficient. At this point, the Steelers are desperate for any sort of forward-thinking on the coaching staff, as the way that they have done things in recent years has been more archaic than modern.

There are many ways that the team could go with Weaver and Slowik calling the shots. There's the potential of them showing how great they can truly be in a stable organization like Pittsburgh's, or they can prove all the haters right and end up having a down season. Either way, the uncertain future is much more appealing than the constant cycle of mediocrity of the last few years.
Steelers Could Also Take More From The Dolphins
Usually, when coaches change teams, they like to bring in a bunch of other assistants and players with them to make them feel more comfortable. One option from this would be Tyreek Hill, a disgruntled receiver that could be the top-flight wideout that Pittsburgh has been searching for over the last two seasons. Getting his dynamic abilities in the offense would be great for helping out a young quarterback.
