"Doesn't Look Promising": Steelers Fans Get Warning About Next Move

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made some impressive moves throughout the 2026 offseason. Most of the team's signings and other moves have directly made an impact on the weaker parts of the roster, which is a good way to build up a team. Some of the key additions made by Pittsburgh include signing cornerback Jamel Dean, running back Rico Dowdle, and defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day. The franchise also completed a trade to bring in wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., and immediately signed him to an extension. The roster looks better on paper already, with the main question still coming at quarterback.

Fans want to see some more moves, and the Steelers have enough cap space to sign some additional pieces. However, it is hard to imagine any other sort of splash is going to be made in free agency or on the trade market. The franchise seems to be focusing on quarterback as the team awaits a decision from Aaron Rodgers on whether or not he wants to continue his playing career, while some other depth pieces might be brought into the fold.

Beat writer Mark Kaboly wrote about the rest of free agency in an article on X, where he explained that he does not expect much more from the organization.

"The Steelers currently have 68 players on the roster, with S Darnell Savage expected to be officially signed soon, thus bringing that number to 69, so the Steelers have plenty of room to add players in free agency over the next month," Kaboly wrote. "I wouldn’t expect much movement. They still need to add two quarterbacks, with Aaron Rodgers likely being one of them, over the next month. They will likely bring back some of their low-tier free agents, but as far as going out and bringing in a left guard or a starting-capable slot receiver, that doesn’t look promising."

The Steelers' biggest holes outside of quarterback come at left guard, and the wide receiver room is still pretty thin. Both of those positions can be addressed through the 2026 NFL Draft, but bringing in some veteran players at either position would not be a bad idea. Rodgers is still the likely answer at quarterback, along with some other free agent or rookie as the Steelers typically carry four quarterbacks into training camp.

Free agency being all but done for Pittsburgh is not necessarily a bad thing. The team has already addressed the majority of its problems, although fans are always going to want to see some more moves to improve. It is important to also consider the NFL's compensatory pick formula, as the Steelers acquired Pittman and Dean without hurting that. The organization wants to be in line to receive some of those selections from the league in the 2027 NFL Draft. Kaboly wrote more about Pittsburgh in free agency.

"So, basically, free agency is done for the Steelers, other than quarterback, where it is going to be either Rodgers or, if he surprises everyone and decides to retire, Will Howard, Mason Rudolph, and adding a low-level veteran and a rookie to round out the room," Kaboly wrote.

Pittsburgh has made a good dent in its issues throughout the 2026 offseason, and it seems like the franchise may be turning its focus towards the 2026 NFL Draft to round out the roster.

Steelers Should Still Consider Adding At Wide Receiver

While the wide receiver pool in the NFL Draft is considered deep, and the Steelers should be in position to draft a receiver in the first round of the event, there are still some veteran wideouts available that should be considered. Jauan Jennings is likely at the top of that list, but any veteran addition would be welcomed.

The room is thin even after adding Pittman, and wide receivers are going to be more of a focus in the offense this season than in recent years.
