The Pittsburgh Steelers have seemingly been waiting for an eternity for the career decision of their 2025 starting quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. The 42-year-old is still in the process of making his choice, and the Steelers' front office is waiting patiently. Rodgers' return will have huge implications not just for the quarterback, but also for how the team drafts and moves forward with the future. The team is confident in their young, 2025 sixth-round pick, Will Howard, but wants to stay competitive in 2026, and Rodgers gives them the best shot at that.

Pittsburgh played a similar waiting game during the 2025 offseason, as Rodgers didn't decide until June. There was plenty of speculation that the four-time MVP made his choice before that time frame, but it wasn't officially announced until the summer. The same could be true this go around, but the stakes are high, and fans are eager to know who will be under center come Week 1.
ESPN's Adam Schefter gave some clarity on the situation during a segment of The Pat McAfee Show.
"It does sound like the Rodgers in Pittsburgh thing is happening. [Rodgers] and [Mike] McCarthy are talking every day. Why are they talking every day if he isn't coming back? It's Aaron being Aaron. It would be my guess right now. It seems that way," Schefter said.
Rodgers in Pittsburgh would mark a reunion between him and his former head coach, Mike McCarthy. The reunion would set up an offense that was reworked with new weapons and would be a completely different philosophy than the previous regime. The Black and Gold will be offensively-driven under McCarthy, and with a combination of a stout, veteran defense, and a brand new offense, Rodgers will come into a situation where he can thrive.

Rodgers led the Steelers to an AFC North divisional championship and a home playoff berth in his first season with the team. The aging quarterback had a solid year, where he limited turnovers and displayed his toughness, even playing through a wrist injury later in the year. Even with a subpar offense, Pittsburgh was able to squeak out 10 wins thanks to its defense and Rodgers' ability to keep the team in it. If the team wants to run it back with him, they will more than likely have a much better scheme and additional quality pass catchers at his disposal.
Rodgers back in Pittsburgh would be yet another year that the organization has decided to put a veteran under center. However, the Rodgers experiment worked a little smoother than the others, but the idea remains. Pittsburgh could go with their young quarterback, Howard, if Rodgers wants to hang his cleats up. All things are possible until Rodgers makes it official, but based on recent reports, it seems that he is on his way back.
Steelers Have A Legitimate Offense With Rodgers: Part Two
As mentioned, the Steelers won 10 games in 2025, and the AFC North title. This offseason, Steelers brass have been far more aggressive in their approach. They have added players through free agency and the trade market that improved glaring holes from 2025. This includes trading for and extending Michael Pittman Jr. Wide receiver performance was a clear issue for Pittsburgh, and adding one of Pittman's caliber was a crucial move to improve.

Additionally, the front office signed running back Rico Dowdle to add yet another bruising back to the room. Rodgers relied on now-Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Kenneth Gainwell a ton in 2025, and adding another outstanding runner was very important to the offense's continuity. These additions will help an offense that has struggled in recent years to thrive. Rodgers will more than likely love what the front office has done thus far, especially after last season, when the receiver room was top-heavy with DK Metcalf and little else to offer behind him.
