Steelers' UDFA With "Elite Testing Numbers" Is Set To Steal A Roster Spot

The Pittsburgh Steelers are starting to get a better idea of what the roster might look like heading into the 2026 season now that the draft is complete. The franchise added 10 new drafted players after entering the event with 12 picks in total, and it is fair to assume that not all of the drafted rookies are going to make the final roster. The Steelers will also have some undrafted free agents get into the mix, as the organization began signing some of those guys right after the 2026 NFL Draft concluded.

It is very rare that an undrafted player goes on to have a fantastic career in the NFL, but it does happen. James Harrison is a prime example of that as he is a fringe Hall of Famer, and Jaylen Warren is another good example of that as he has been a reliable running back for the Steelers over the last four seasons. Hopefully Pittsburgh can find another diamond in the rough, and according to beat writer Mike DeFabo of The Athletic, the player with the best chance to fit that mold is defensive lineman Kevin Jobity Jr. out of Syracuse.

DeFabo recently published an early prediction for Pittsburgh's 53-man roster, and he had Jobity just missing the cut as Logan Lee and sixth-round pick Gabriel Rubio made the team.

"The Steelers waited until the sixth round to address this position group with Rubio, a Notre Dame product who missed the final six games of his college career with a broken elbow and torn UCL," DeFabo wrote. "There could be some position battles brewing here. Jobity had elite testing numbers, making him the UDFA with the best shot to steal a roster spot. Lee (who was stashed on injured reserve as a rookie) only played in a limited role last year. His spot isn’t necessarily secure, either."

Rubio was a somewhat shocking selection as not many people had heard of him before, but he suffered a fairly serious injury in his final season of college football as he broke his elbow and tore a ligament in his arm. He flew under the radar and was drafted by the Steelers to add some depth to the defensive line, as Lee is also returning for his third season to provide depth.

Steelers' Logan Lee warms up before a road preseason game ahead of the 2025 season.

Lee missed his entire rookie season in 2024, and he barely saw the field in 2025 but did make some plays for Pittsburgh. His spot on the 53-man roster is certainly not secure, and neither is Rubio's. This sets up an undrafted free agent like Jobity to potentially make some noise. DeFabo mentioned that he has the best chance to make the team out of all of the undrafted players that have been signed so far due to his athletic ability, which the reporter touched on in a separate article.

"At 6-foot-4 and 308 pounds with 33 1/4 arms, he scored an 8.87 out of 10 on the Relative Athletic Score," DeFabo wrote. "That ranked 259 out of 2,278 DTs from 1987 to 2026. He was not invited to the Combine. However, among players at his position, his 10-yard split would have made him among the top five testers at the combine, and his vertical (32 inches) would have been sixth best."

Jobity seems to be a bit of an athletic freak, and if he can channel some of that size and athleticism, he could be a great pickup for Pittsburgh. He should be able to at least challenge Lee for the final roster spot in the defensive line room.

Steelers Are Bringing In A Ton Of Versatility With Kevin Jobity Jr.

Jobity was able to play all along the defensive front during his time with Syracuse. He spent four years at the school and was a starter for two seasons after being a rotational player for two. He started the first five games of his junior season before suffering a season-ending injury. Had that injury never happened, maybe he would have been drafted, which could mean Pittsburgh got some value in the young defensive lineman.

What do you think about Jobity as a prospect? Let me know on X, @brogannoey!
