Pro Bowler Has Revealing Conversation About Potentially Signing With The Steelers: "I [Like] The Thought Of That"

The Pittsburgh Steelers have gone through some monumental changes so far in the 2026 offseason. The new coaching staff has been talked about heavily, but there has also been a good amount of turnover on the roster as well. 2025's Team MVP, Kenneth Gainwell, left Pittsburgh in free agency and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Pittsburgh also upgraded the offense by bringing in more weapons. Michael Pittman Jr. and Rico Dowdle are two of the main additions, and there could be more as the organization still has some cap space to work with.

The obvious signing that still needs to take place comes at quarterback. Aaron Rodgers is still technically a free agent, despite the fact that it has been made clear that the Steelers are just waiting on him to decide that he wants to continue his playing career. There could be some other signings to consider that may round out the roster. Outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy is currently a free agent, and he was on Up & Adams With Kay Adams on Tuesday morning. The two talked about his immediate future, and the veteran defender was asked about the possibility of signing with the Steelers.

"I would like the thought of that," Van Noy said. "But I don't know how much I would play with all those guys they have. They have Nick Herbig, who is a phenomenal player, he's going to make a lot of money. Very good. Can't think of the other guy, and TJ Watt. Those are the three they got. I don't know how many more players you're going to be seeing at the edge position. But I would like the thought of that."

Van Noy did not blossom until later on in his NFL career. He was drafted back in 2013, but he didn't have his two best seasons until 2023 and 2024. He took a step backwards in 2025, but the late-career resurgence has still been impressive. He doesn't just want to sign somewhere to be a veteran leader, he wants to be on the field contributing. It's hard to imagine he would get many snaps signing with the Steelers.

The outside linebacker room is crowded in Pittsburgh with TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith leading the way, along with Nick Herbig right behind them. Herbig should be getting paid pretty handsomely before the 2026 season begins, and Jack Sawyer also came on strong near the end of his rookie year in 2025.

Van Noy has bounced around quite a bit in his career, but he has spent most of his time in the AFC. Pittsburgh fans should be pretty familiar with the defender as eight of his seasons in the NFL came with a combination of the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots. He also spent time with the Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins, and Detroit Lions. He is currently 35 years old and has recorded 57 sacks throughout his career.

Steelers Could End Up Using A Player Like Kyle Van Noy

Van Noy is at a stage in his career where he could be a little bit picky about where he signs next. He could also wait for training camp and the regular season to get underway before signing with a team, which is something that he did back in 2023 before signing in Baltimore. Both Highsmith and Watt have had their fair share of injuries, so if any sort of soft tissue injury occurs, Van Noy could be one of the franchise's first phone calls.

He would probably like to sign somewhere sooner rather than later, but waiting is always a good option for veterans.

What do you think about the comments on signing with Pittsburgh from Van Noy? Let me know on X, @brogannoey!
