The Pittsburgh Steelers have been one of the most talked about teams in the NFL throughout the 2026 offseason due to the franchise's situation at the quarterback position. It is fair to say that the situation has been unusual over the last few years, as the team has just been waiting on a decision from a 42-year-old on whether or not he would like to play for the team. It has been bizarre, but it is hard to blame the Steelers. Aaron Rodgers is by far the best option to be the starter in order to win games.

Rodgers signed on to play for the Steelers right before the start of mandatory minicamp during the 2025 offseason, and it was expected that he would retire after the season. He only signed a one-year deal, and many have believed that he will be coming back for the 2026 season. It was reported by 93.7 The Fan that the veteran quarterback would be taking a visit to Pittsburgh this weekend, and the expectation is that he could sign a deal. NFL insider Ian Rapoport joined Good Morning Football on Friday, and he was asked about Rodgers and the entire situation.
"My understanding is Rodgers has also kind of continued the conversation and the acclimation process with his receivers, getting to know some of the old ones, and some of the new ones like Michael Pittman [Jr.], just kind of furthering the thought that he is expected to be the Steelers quarterback in 2026," Rapoport said.
His visit to Pittsburgh could just be a meeting with the team brass, but it also could end in a new deal. On the other hand, mandatory minicamp does not begin until June 2nd. He could wait to sign, but everything could be semi-finalized after this meeting in Pittsburgh. It sounds like Rodgers has been planning to return based on Rapoport's report that he has stayed in conversation with his teammates, even the players signed during the 2026 offseason.

Pittsburgh acquired wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. via trade, and it sounds like Rodgers has been communicating with him and DK Metcalf during the offseason. Germie Bernard will be another wide receiver for Rodgers to build chemistry with, and they will both be in Pittsburgh this weekend. Rapoport spoke more about the situation during his television appearance.
"Not saying it's imminent that he's gonna sign this weekend," Rapoport said. "There is still no deal. We still have to discuss things right now on the books for $15 million. Next year remains to be seen, whether that's gonna be the final contract or whether Rodgers is going to get a little bit more. But when all is said and done, the expectation is that Rodgers is back with these Steelers next season with Mike McCarthy where he can hit the ground running and the Steelers will once again be in the same position they were last year with a good, big name, well-known quarterback, a pretty good defense, and absolutely a chance to go and get it."
Rapoport echoed that there is a chance that no deal gets finalized by the end of this visit, but that does not mean that progress wasn't made. The two sides can agree to something now without it being signed. That will more than likely be the case.

Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Should See A Decent Raise In 2026
If Rodgers does decide to come back and play, he should be getting paid more than he did in 2025. In 2025 he made just about $13 million, and this time around it is reasonable to think that his salary could come in at about $20 million. That is roughly what Kirk Cousins will be paid, so that is kind of the bar for veteran quarterbacks on one-year deals.
What do you think about the meeting between Rodgers and the Steelers? Let me know on X, @brogannoey!
