Steelers Great Believes Zach Frazier Will Be "Talked About For A Long Time" As He Is Barely Scratching The Surface

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a long history and tradition as an organization, and that has come with a lot of success. The defense is always the most talked about part of the roster when it comes to the Steelers due to the players that have played on that side of the ball for the franchise in the past. However, the center spot is another area of the roster that the team has been absolutely dominant at over the years. The center group is headlined by Mike Webster, Dermontti Dawson, and Maurkice Pouncey. Ray Mansfield and Jeff Hartings were also impressive centers that have donned the black and gold.

Pouncey was the most recent legendary center for the Steelers as he had Ben Roethlisberger's back from 2010 through the 2020 season. He retired after the COVID-19 year, but he has consistently been in Pittsburgh for events and he has been outspoken about the current team. He recently appeared on Not Just Football With Cam Heyward, and he was asked about Pittsburgh's current center, Zach Frazier. Frazier is entering his third season, and he has been impressive ever since being drafted in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

"I think Zach is a great player," Pouncey said. "I think he has a great foundation, a great base, it looks like he has the leadership capability. I hate to say this sometimes about players because I said this about some other players and I think my words are sometimes misspoken, just hope for the best for the guys and put like the best pub behind them. But Zach, I think he has a lot of potential to be one of those guys that are talked about for a long time. Watching him play, the way he approaches the run game, pass game, I feel like he could be one of them guys. Take it to the next level, a perennial Pro Bowler type of guy."

Pouncey made the Pro Bowl himself nine different times and was an All-Pro five times, so this is some solid praise for Pittsburgh's young center. Pouncey made sure to state that he is always careful putting this type of pressure and expectations on a younger player, but he believes Frazier has what it take to take his game to the next level and be one of the best centers in the league.

Frazier has already shown signs that he will eventually be one of the top centers in the NFL. Unfortunately, he has played in the same conference as Tyler Linderbaum and Creed Humphrey, so he has not been able to receive any major accolades quite yet through his first two seasons. However, it is clear and obvious that at least a few Pro Bowls could be in his future at some point.

The young center has continued to improve throughout his career with the Steelers, and that pattern should continue into his third season. It will be the first time he is not switching quarterbacks between seasons in the NFL, so that could add an extra layer of reliability and comfortability going into the 2026 season.

Steelers Were A Perfect Match For Zach Frazier

Going into the 2024 NFL Draft, it was obvious that the Steelers had some serious interest in Frazier. The organization needed a center that could start right away, and he was one of the top prospects in the draft. The two sides were a perfect match, and Frazier was even hoping that he would fall to Pittsburgh. That is what happened in the second round of the event.

The entire event it seemed like a sure thing that Frazier would eventually be wearing the black and gold, and it also seemed like a sure thing that he would be an above-average center in the NFL.
