The Pittsburgh Steelers' front office has gone to great lengths to fortify the wide receiver corps throughout the 2026 offseason. In the midst of doing that, Roman Wilson has somewhat been forgotten. Some may even believe that he does not deserve to be fourth on the depth chart when the regular season rolls around. It has been a challenging couple of years for the former third-round selection, and it's not going to be easy to prove himself unless some kind of injury occurs to one of his teammates. Overall, he is facing a ton of pressure in 2026 to show that he has what it takes to contribute consistently.

While it currently seems unlikely that the Steelers will look to bring in another veteran, it can't fully be ruled out if Aaron Rodgers isn't fully trusting Wilson when meaningful football begins in September. The wide receiver made a silly mistake in 2025 when he tried to make an unnecessary move with Pittsburgh leading late in a game, and it led to a fumble.
Arthur Smith said he is trying to break the habit of WR Roman Wilson leaving his feet to avoid a tackle. Said he sees it in college all the time. That bonehead move -- Mike Tomlin's word -- resulted in a late fumble against the Colts.

Going back to Wilson's rookie season in 2024, he battled injuries throughout the year. This was unfortunate because he was coming off of a phenomenal showing at the University of Michigan. He has not landed on his feet quite yet at the professional level, which will hopefully change in the upcoming campaign.
He recently sat down with his teammate on The Christian Kuntz Podcast to talk about the Steelers and plenty of other topics. Wilson was honest when reflecting on his first year in the NFL, saying that it wasn't an easy thing to get through.
"I was doing pretty good that first week [of training camp] and then had the ankle injury," Wilson said. "Going through that process really sucked for me 'cause that was my first time in Latrobe; my first time being away from everything in my support system and then getting hurt. It was a weird feeling man because I'm here to play football and I'm no longer playing. I was having a really hard time coming back from it."
It wasn't just the ankle ailment that slowed Wilson down, either. Unfortunately, shortly after he finally rebounded from that, he brought up the other injury that eventually led to him getting shut down.
"Came back from it and got hurt again," Wilson noted. "My hammy."
It's not very often that a third-year wideout comes out of nowhere to make his presence known, but it is something that Wilson is going to look to do, even if he has three capable pass-catchers ahead of him, plus two talented tight ends.

The first big step for Wilson will be earning Rodgers' trust. He might find himself on the field from time to time, but that doesn't mean that the veteran quarterback is going to be looking his way very often.
Another big thing for Wilson to accomplish is being fully healthy. There might be a time when the offense needs to count on him in 2026 due to other injuries, and that could be his big opportunity to make a couple of big plays so that he can earn more chances on the offensive side of the ball.

Steelers Will Be In Great Shape If Wilson Does Take The Next Step
Having a dominant trio at the top of the receiving corps should be great for Pittsburgh. If Wilson is able to prove his worth throughout the summer and into the regular season, the team will suddenly boast one of the better groups in the AFC. A lot has to go right for the unit to be considered as such, but depth is certainly needed. That's exactly why it's time for Wilson to bounce back after a couple of rough years that weren't ideal for him.
