The Pittsburgh Steelers are heading into a 2026 season that will be quite unique for them. The franchise is notorious for keeping head coaches around for a long time, but they have their first new one in almost two decades, as well as several new players that will suit up in the Black and Gold in the upcoming season. For Pittsburgh native Mike McCarthy, he is hoping to bring his years of coaching experience around the league to a storied franchise craving playoff success. However, recent odds on the franchise to have that desired outcome do not look promising for his first year in the Steel City.

One of the biggest things that held back quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the 2025 team was the lack of reliable wide receiver options outside of DK Metcalf. Now Rodgers will have several players to distribute the ball to with the additions of Michael Pittman Jr. and Germie Bernard. The offense on paper already looks like it is a few steps ahead of the one they put out on the field last season. One thing McCarthy has been known for when constructing a very productive NFL offense is the need for weapons, and the front office addressed that this offseason.
Recent odds however, were put out for the team to win the Super Bowl and they came in at 65-1. ESPN analyst Kevin Clark recently discussed these odds and he vehemently disagreed. For a team that supplied their offensive-minded head coach and four-time MVP quarterback with more weapons than last year, the argument can be made that these odds are quite low.
"65 to 1," Clark said. What are we doing? I donβt think the Steelers are winning the Super Bowl, but they should never be that low down."
The argument Clark makes is strongly against these odds and it is also very realistic. The franchise may not be in the best position to win or even get to the Super Bowl currently, but for a team looking to win a playoff game for the first time in almost a decade, they are definitely better equipped to do just that heading into the 2026 season.

Pittman provides a big body that can run alongside Metcalf and take attention away from him in 2026. Bernard complements them well, as he can be a guy that can catch the ball underneath and make plays in the open field to improve the offense.
Steelers' Offense Poised For Big 2026 Improvement
Clark's assessment of these odds are very logical considering the proactive nature of the Pittsburgh front office to add to the 2026 roster. The 2025 offense ranked near the bottom of the league, coming in at 25th overall in total offense with 305.6 yards. The team did win the AFC North division in 2025, while they also have made the playoffs in five of the last six seasons, however the path in 2026 will be much more difficult.
For an organization that assembled a better roster than what they had heading into 2025, there is no reason to believe Pittsburgh cannot at least finally get past the first round of the playoffs and end their playoff win skid. While the team may be a bit behind in terms of a Super Bowl-caliber team, the only questions about their additions to make them better should be if they can mesh well together in the 2026 NFL season. If they were seemingly able to overachieve with inferior rosters, they absolutely can have expectations of making a playoff run this season.

Rodgers has mentioned that this is his final NFL season as he enters it at 42-years-old and will turn 43 in December. While a championship ultimately may not end up happening, the Steelers definitely came in lower than they should have with these odds.
