The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to embark on what should be the final rodeo with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. After a lengthy waiting game filled with speculation about whether Rodgers would return for another season in the Steel City or not, the future Hall of Famer eventually made his intentions clear: this will be his final year playing in the NFL. With Rodgers, there is always an element of unpredictability, but as things stand with training camp around the corner, the 2026 campaign appears to be the closing chapter of an incredible career.

With Rodgers entering his final season, the Steelers' quarterback room has become one of the most intriguing storylines heading into the year. Pittsburgh currently has veteran Mason Rudolph behind Rodgers, along with two young and exciting quarterbacks in Will Howard and Drew Allar

While Rudolph provides experience and a familiarity with the organization, many Steelers fans have started to question whether it is time for the team to move on without him and begin developing one of the younger quarterbacks behind Rodgers.

The debate has centered around whether the Steelers should keep Rudolph as the veteran insurance option or open the door for Howard or Allar to take over the backup role. Both young quarterbacks represent potential long-term options for Pittsburgh, and with Rodgers' career coming to an end soon, the organization has to start thinking about who could eventually become the next face of the franchise.

Our staff at SteelerNation.com decided to ask some of the greatest Steelers fans in the world where they stand. After surveying 1,259 members, fans were asked a simple question: Are you comfortable with the Steelers having only Howard and Allar backing up Rodgers for the 2026 season?

The response was overwhelmingly clear, as 84% of fans voted yes, while just 16% elected no. Steelers fans appear confident that Pittsburgh's young quarterback duo has enough potential to support Rodgers while possibly laying the groundwork for the future.

Many Steelers fans sounded off in the replies, but the general consensus appears to be that Rudolph's time in the Steel City may have reached its peak. The Black and Gold faithful seems to believe that they already knows what they have in Rudolph after several seasons with the organization, while there is still plenty of unknown potential with Howard and Allar.

Both Howard and Allar are young, exciting options who should get every opportunity to prove they can become reliable backups and potentially even future starters at some point in their careers. While Rudolph may still hold some trade value, moving him now could give the Steelers a chance to acquire something in return while opening valuable developmental opportunities for their younger quarterbacks.

Steelers Fans Believe Rudolph's Time In Pittsburgh Should Be Over

Sure, if veteran Rodgers were to suffer an injury, Rudolph would likely provide the Steelers with a more experienced and reliable short-term option. However, the bigger picture is about preparing for the future. Rudolph is not likely viewed as the quarterback who can consistently lead Pittsburgh on a deep playoff run or provide long-term stability at the position.

If the Steelers believe Howard or Allar can be part of the future plans, now is the time to start finding out. Based on the results of the SteelerNation survey, it appears as if a large majority of fans also agree, with 84% believing the Steelers would be comfortable moving forward with their young quarterback duo behind Rodgers.
