The Pittsburgh Steelers have frustrated a lot of fans in recent years with the way the organization has consistently tried to be a team that can contend for Super Bowl. Usually being in the mix is great, but the Steelers do not have enough talent to even get past the first round of the postseason. No one in the building seems to be able to grasp that, so the cycle has just been repeating for years. The team squeaks into the playoffs, loses by a lot, has an entire offseason of confusion at the quarterback position, and then repeat. Many fans would rather the team have a couple of down years.

Plenty of franchises around the league accept the reality that is rebuilding, but not the Steelers. This has been a point of contention over the last several years, and it has led to members of the media calling the franchise unserious. The Steelers have had no chance of competing in recent years as the group has been extremely mediocre; although, the organization has managed a playoff birth in three consecutive seasons.
For the 2026 season, Pittsburgh's total for wins on the year is set at 8.5. A lot of people are taking the over due to the fact that it seems like the Steelers always have nine or 10 wins, and Vic Tafur of The Athletic is taking that same approach.
"It’s not the sexiest storyline, but the Steelers are shooting for their 20th straight non-losing season, but this time without Mike Tomlin." Tafur wrote. "Aaron Rodgers, 42, decided he wanted to come back, and the Steelers aren’t a serious organization, so they said sure. There is enough defensive talent here, and I really like the addition of Michael Pittman Jr., so congratulations to Pittsburgh. Nine wins and they’re irrelevant once again."
In the middle of his analysis for the 2026 season, Tafur decided to take a jab at the Steelers as he called them an unserious organization for waiting around for Aaron Rodgers the past two offseasons. Many around the NFL would probably agree with him, even though Rodgers was likely the team's best option at a certain point.

It's hard to disagree with anything that was written by Tafur. The Steelers have not been seen as elite for many years now. Not in the traditional way like the Cleveland Browns or the New York Jets, but in the sense that the organization continues to do the same thing over and over again while expecting different results. That would be he definition of insanity.
The Steelers have not had a losing season since the early-2000s, so there is a sense of pride that comes with that. The franchise also doesn't want to have a losing season in its first year without Mike Tomlin running the show. That would be a rough look; although, a couple of losing seasons is exactly what the team might need. Continuing to pick late in the first round has been hurting this team that has needed high-end talent for years.

Steelers Have Caused Plenty Of Concern With 2026 Season Coming Up
It always seemed like Rodgers would only be around for the 2025 season, but then the team showed interest in bringing him back and allowed him to drag out another decision. On top of that the franchise brought in his former head coach in Mike McCarthy, and those two factors potentially having something to do with the other is extremely concerning.
Plenty of respected pundits in the media have expressed legitimate concerns with the outlook of the franchise, and it is hard not to agree with them. Hopefully this team can surpass expectations, but it is more than likely that the results of the 2026 season are just going to be more of the same.
