There were countless moments of certain stars complaining or acting out of character. The hope is that once the 19-year veteran walked away, so did some of the drama that the Steelers encountered when he was on the sideline.

Pittsburgh will look to leaders such as Aaron Rodgers and Cam Heyward to keep everyone together, which is exactly what a good operation looks like. Anything that ends up getting out of hand should immediately be addressed by McCarthy and whatever positional coaches need to be involved. However, as of right now, there seems to be nothing to worry about.

Beat writer Mark Kaboly recently answered questions for a mailbag on X. Someone was curious as to if there were any attention-seekers or non-team players in the locker room. The reporter detailed that a goal of late has been to get this specific issue out of the way. In 2026, it truly looks like McCarthy won't have to deal with any headaches.

"They’ve pretty much cleaned it up over the past few years. It sure can’t hurt to have good guys in the locker room," Kaboly wrote. "Every year, there seemed to be a couple of jerks. I don’t get that sense this year."

This is great news coming from someone who is around the roster day-in and day-out. If the Steelers don't have to worry about any distractions, it could really make a difference moving forward. Having a collective that is fully bought in to what is going on and understanding that there is one common goal isn't something that should go unnoticed. A strong locker room leads to more rapport, and, in turn, better play on the field.

It is a completely new era for the Steelers. Tomlin was a great leader for a long time, but it's hard to deny that change can sometimes be a good thing. That is exactly what Pittsburgh is in the midst of right now. No one can argue that a completely cleaned up locker room without any selfish personalities won't help the team achieve lofty goals.

Winning cures all in these situations. If the Steelers start off by winning games and are trending well, the guys will come even closer together. However, if there are some tough times early, there could be some individuals who really start to get frustrated about what is happening. Time will tell, but the group appears to be in a really good spot.

While certain guys like Heyward and Watt haven't had any playoff success in recent years — and for Watt, in particular — they still bring significant value because of how hard they work in front of their teammates. Continuing to show an example and giving 100% effort throughout August and into the regular season is something that fans can absolutely expect from several members on the roster.
