The Pittsburgh Steelers are now 3-2 on the year after taking down the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5 by a score of 34-22. The record could be better, but it is hard to complain about an over .500 start through five games with an almost entirely new coaching staff. The fan base is starting to get a better idea of what this is, and that means better knowledge of the group's strengths and weaknesses. An obvious area that the team needs to work on is tackling, which has never really been a problem for Pittsburgh in the past. A roster move could be coming soon to help fix that problem.

Steelers linebacker Elandon Roberts stands on the sideline and looks on as the team goes through a 2023 training camp workout at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.
Missed tackles have particularly been a problem for the Steelers from the inside linebacker spot in 2026. Patrick Queen and Payton Wilson have more missed tackles than any other inside linebacker group in the league, and it has been a problem for two consecutive weeks. It was a major issue against the Cleveland Browns in Week 4, but the two cleaned it up a bit against the Colts. Regardless, the team is hosting Elandon Roberts on a visit on Monday, and he could be signed by the end of the day.

Roberts has been with the Steelers in the past, and he signed with the team again during training camp ahead of the 2026 season. He played well during the preseason, but he was cut before the regular season began which came as a surprise to a lot of fans. With what Roberts showed on the field during the preseason it seemed like Roberts would be able to contribute to this roster, and the organization seems to just now be realizing that.

Roberts being cut was attributed to Pittsburgh's decision to keep four quarterbacks on the active roster. That took away a roster spot from another position group, and it happened to be the veteran inside linebacker that paid the price. He went through the start of the regular season without being signed by anyone else around the league, and now the Steelers are revisiting the idea of bringing him onto the roster. He may sign onto the practice squad to begin with, and from there he could be elevated to the active roster three separate times before the team would have to sign him.
The veteran played for the Steelers for two seasons, and he played in 33 games over that time. He recorded nearly 150 total tackles, forced a fumble, and broke up a couple passes. He isn't a flashy defender, but he gets the job done and is a sure tackler, which is something the Steelers need more of as of right now.
Steelers Have A Ton Of History With Elandon Roberts
Roberts being brought back into the mix certainly has to do with his history with the Steelers and some of the coaches in the building. He spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons in Pittsburgh, and he then went and played under Patrick Graham with the Las Vegas Raiders. He knows how Graham likes to call a defense, and he also knows what it is like playing behind some of the veterans on the defensive front for Pittsburgh. His experience with the team and Graham certainly made him the top option for Pittsburgh when it came to inside linebackers that were still available through the first few weeks of the 2026 season.
Nothing has been made official yet as it was reported that Roberts is just visiting the organization, but he could be signed to the practice squad by the end of the day.
What do you think about the Steelers hosting Roberts for a visit on Monday? Let me know on X, @brogannoey!
