Garrett Wilson's Latest Comments Make A Reunion With Aaron Rodgers On The Steelers Seem More Difficult

The Pittsburgh Steelers are having a pretty good season in 2026 as the team has a record of 5-2 through the first seven games of the year. The group has one more game against the Cleveland Browns in Week 8, and then it is the bye week for Pittsburgh in Week 9. This will be a time for the team to get healthy again, and it could also be a time for some trades. The NFL's trade deadline is between Week 9 and Week 10, on the Tuesday following Pittsburgh's bye week. If the Steelers can beat Cleveland and enter the bye week with a record of 6-2 and the lead in the AFC North, General Manager Omar Khan may be forced to make some moves.

Pittsburgh has to get healthy in the trenches, at wide receiver, and in the secondary once the bye week comes around, but there are some issues that cannot be fixed at a time. One of those issues is the current depth at wide receiver with both Roman Wilson and Michael Pittman Jr. on Injured Reserve (IR). Wilson should be back after Week 10, which is when he becomes eligible, but there is a chance that Pittman could be out for the whole season. Wide receiver is a position that has been talked about ahead of the trade deadline, and New York Jets superstar wide receiver Garrett Wilson is a name to target.

The Jets aren't playing well thus far in 2026, and there is a chance the organization turns over the coaching staff once again. Wilson is in his fifth season, and it might be time to deal the young wide receiver. He and Aaron Rodgers played together in New York, so it would be a reunion of sorts if Wilson was dealt to Pittsburgh. However, the wide receiver spoke to the media on Wednesday and he seemed to make it clear that he isn't asking to be traded. He was asked if he has asked to be traded or if he will ask to be traded.

"You know what, nah," Wilson said. "Y'all see the stuff on socials as well, you know I'm big on controlling what I can control. That's the reality of things when you lose, stuff like that comes up. We saw it last year, we've seen it before throughout the history of the league. My name happens to be floated around in those conversations, that's just how the business goes. But man, I try to control what I can control."

Wilson said that he has not and will not request a trade from the Jets. He is focused on controlling what he can control, which means he is just focused on his play on the field. He is not surprised to see his name flying around in trade rumors since the team is struggling, but he has not asked to be sent away from the Jets.

Former New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) and wide receiver Garrett Wilson (5) talk on the field during the second quarter against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium.

There has been talk about Wilson wanting out of New York due to some of the events that happened on Sunday during Week 7. The Jets lost to the winless Miami Dolphins, and Wilson had a couple of different outbursts on the sidelines that were caught by the broadcast. He seemed to be extremely frustrated, which makes complete sense considering how much losing the franchise has done ever since he was drafted. He spoke more about how much he loves winning, and how much he loves being a Jet.

"Yeah, I want to be here," Wilson said. "I want to win games. That's the one thing we've been missing on here. I love it here. Do I love it more than I love winning? Nah, to be completely honest. But I'm hopeful."

Wilson seems hopeful about the future with the Jets, but that might just be media talk. He could actually be working to get some sort of trade down with his agent and the team behind the scenes. It would be hard to blame him if he truly did want out of New York.

Steelers Likely Not In On Garrett Wilson

It would be hard to trade for Wilson due to the fact that he has said publicly that he is not asking for a trade, and he would also be expensive to acquire. He is already on his second contract, and Pittsburgh has enough money tied up at the wide receiver position between Pittman and DK Metcalf.
