Yay or Nay? Week 9 vs Bears

author image

The Pittsburgh Steelers are back in primetime on Monday Night Football as they host the Chicago Bears. Both teams are desperate for wins as the Steelers look to continue to claw their way to the top of the AFC North; the Bears seeking some type of rhythm. The Steelers can’t underestimate this team with a dynamic, but inexperienced, playmaker in quarterback, Justin Fields.

Last week the Steelers pulled off, according to experts, an improbable win in Cleveland. With no kicker late in the game and the odds against them, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger got his first win in his home state in three years; and first in Cleveland in four years. We went 3-2 in Yay or Nay last week. So without further ado…

Ben’s better days are behind him. It’s not debatable. But the narrative he can’t play isn’t a legitimate argument. It’s a lazy narrative. That doesn’t mean he is able to play at the levels we have previously observed. He has been steady during this winning streak. Can he kick it up a notch as the offense continues to improve?

Defense forces 2+ turnovers

The Steelers' defense hasn’t been quite as sharp in forcing turnovers this season—especially compared to the previous two seasons. However, with the defense getting a little bit healthier, factors such as Minkah Fitzpatrick (and others) settling into a more consistent role, and signs of life in the defense the past couple of games… Could this be trending back in that direction?

Steelers tight ends combine for over 100 yards receiving

How about Pat Freiermuth? How Zach Gentry? Both of these guys had really solid games last week. Gentry’s improvement has been especially a nice thing to watch. With Eric Ebron out again, these two will get the starting nods again. While they can be great weapons in this offense, will Ben look their ways early and often in this game?

The Steelers offensive line limits pressures

Kendrick Green O-line

The o-line is slowly, painfully, but surely improving. The run game is clicking. The pass protection has been decent at times. With Khalil Mack out, that certainly helps Matt Canada breathe out a little bit. Will they keep Ben clean?

The Steelers continue their MNF Home dominance

You know the stats. This is a must-win (like every other week) as the AFC North race intensifies.
