The Pittsburgh Steelers have been very busy this offseason building depth and adding to areas of need. However, one position still needs to be addressed either via free agency or the NFL Draft, and that is slot cornerback.

The Steelers and cornerback Cam Sutton decided to part ways and he signed with the Detroit Lions. While they did almost immediately sign Patrick Peterson who had been with the Minnesota Vikings, they still need depth and ideally someone who is versatile and can play in the slot.
While Peterson has shown that he still has a lot of gas left in the tank, he had one of the best seasons of his career in Minnesota in 2022, he is 32 years old. That means the team needs to be looking to the remaining free agents or ahead at the draft, or possibly both.
There are still a few cornerbacks available in free agency that the Steelers could sign.
Top Slot Cornerback Free Agents Available For The Steelers
Bryce Callahan
Callahan, 31, was most recently on the Los Angeles Chargers. He has struggled with some injuries during his career, but when he is healthy, he is an outstanding player. Callahan is able to lock down receivers and mirror their movements down the field. He is not as strong against the run as is ideal, but his ability to shut down receivers is a huge benefit.
The Steelers have focused on picking up some defensive free agents that are strong against the run this off-season, Callahan would help the secondary out to be able to compete against some of these new pass-heavy offenses. He had 47 tackles and three interceptions in 2022.
Callahan also provides some strong veteran leadership to the defense. He is well known to be hard-working, humble, and persistent. He and Peterson would be outstanding mentors to younger players. He has been underrated during his career and is currently being overlooked in free agency.
Chandon Sullivan
Sullivan, 26, was most recently with the Vikings. One benefit to Sullivan is that he knows Peterson, having played together in Minnesota. He has received some criticisms of his abilities to move laterally, but he is a slot that could be a worthwhile project. He is young and had been healthy, and that is a huge benefit given it is a position that lends itself to injury.
He was undrafted, but gained some attention playing for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018. He bounced around a bit after that - Green Bay before Minnesota. But he has several years of experience playing in the slot and has proven to be reliable.
His Pro Football Focus score for 2022 was 59.9, which isn't great, but it is that score that also makes him an affordable option. He plays better on the field than he looks on paper.

Chandon Sullivan’s leaping interception against the Cowboys sticks out as one of the best highlights of the Packers season.
Troy HIll
Hill, 31, is another slot corner that feels like he still has something to give. He has been a bit of a journeyman beginning his career in Cincinnati, however, he spent most of his time in Los Angeles with the Rams. He left the Rams and went to Cleveland and then was traded back to Los Angeles again.
The Browns felt that he wasn't performing at the level they wanted him to and let him go. He has an overall PFF grade of 65.4. The best thing about Hill is his versatility. He is able to play inside and outside of the slot. This means the Steelers can move their other corners around knowing that he can cover the field. While he can play anywhere as a corner, he is best in the slot.
