Steelers' Super Bowl Hopes Instantly Slashed By Analyst: "That Team Is Not Very Good"

The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to have one of their best rosters in recent memory when they kick off the 2024 regular season. General Manager Omar Khan has revamped a lot of position groups, and new Offensive Coordinator, Arthur Smith has fans optimistic about the upcoming season. The Steelers have made brief playoff appearances in two of the last three seasons, but the organization is desperate to see some success in the postseason.

Head Coach Mike Tomlin found a way to continue his streak of non-losing seasons in 2023, despite horrific quarterback play and a defense that was decimated by injuries late in the season. The Steelers are expected to make the playoffs in 2024, but analyst Jason McIntyre doesn't think they have a chance of making any noise. During a recent episode of The Herd With Colin Cowherd, McIntyre spoke about his thoughts on the Steelers and the odds they can make their way to Super Bowl LIX.

"The Pittsburgh Steelers, I'm sorry guys, as much as I have liked Russell Wilson, it ain't happening. That team is not very good, schedule is daunting, no thank you."

McIntyre's comments came during a segment where he was placing all 32 NFL teams into five tiers based on their chances to win the Super Bowl. The Steelers were in the second-worst tier, titled Need A Prayer. Pittsburgh was in the same tier as teams like the Carolina Panthers and the Minnesota Vikings. As much as the Steelers have their work cut out for them, they have no business being on the same level as those two teams.

The Steelers stumbled their way to a 10-7 record and a playoff berth in 2023, despite ranking near the bottom of the league in all major offensive statistics aside from rushing. Now, they have a new and proven offensive coordinator in Smith, and have upgraded the quarterback position by signing Wilson. All signs point to the Steelers being much improved in 2024, once again proving there is no reason the Steelers should be considered to be on the same level as the Panthers.

In addition to all the moves Khan made in free agency, Pittsburgh also had one of the best drafts across the league. They addressed needs on the offensive line, while managing to get two steals in the third round in Roman Wilson and Payton Wilson. The offensive line will be much improved, and will pave the way for Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren in Smith's run-heavy offense.

The defense speaks for itself, as TJ Watt should be returning with a chip on his shoulder after being obviously snubbed for the AP Defensive Player Of The Year Award in 2023. He's one of the best game-wreckers in league, and the Steelers are always in the game with Watt on the field.

Steelers Can Only Be Kept Out Of The Playoffs By One Thing

The Steelers will have to undergo one of the hardest schedules in the NFL during the 2024 season. From Week 11 through the end of the regular season, Pittsburgh will be playing all six of their divisional games, with their two other games being against the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles

It will be a gauntlet to end the season, but as long as the Steelers get off to a good start, they should be able to remain in the playoff conversation. In addition to the already difficult schedule, Pittsburgh will be playing three of their hardest games in a span of 10 days. From Week 15 through Week 17, they will take on the Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, and the Chiefs in a 10-day span. Pittsburgh has a lot of things going against them in 2024, but Khan has built the proper roster to weather the storm.
