Pittsburgh Steelers fans who also support the Pittsburgh Pirates have had plenty to cheer about recently, thanks to pitcher Paul Skenes. While the Pirates have been bad, Skenes has been exciting for the team. Drafted first overall by the Pirates in the 2023 MLB Draft, Skenes quickly made headlines in Major League Baseball. On May 11, 2024, he made his debut with the Pirates against the Chicago Cubs, and his performance was nothing short of spectacular.

Skenes has taken the MLB by storm with his powerful fastballs and impressive maturity on the mound. Despite the Pirates' overall struggles this season, Skenes has been a game-changer, leading the team to a 10-2 record when he starts. With a stellar 2.10 ERA and 151 strikeouts, Skenes has emerged as one of the few bright spots for a team in need of a boost.

Tomlin, known for his meticulous approach, was particularly impressed by Skenes' dedication and work ethic. The Steelers' coach had heard a great deal about Skenes' game preparation and commitment, and he was amazed by the young pitcher’s professionalism. Tomlin made a point to convey his deep respect for Skenes, acknowledging how much he values the pitcher's approach to the game.
Skenes recently appeared on the Barstool Sports podcast Pardon My Take, where he was asked if he followed or supported any NFL teams. Skenes admitted that he didn't have a particular team he rooted for.
The hosts playfully teased him, suggesting he had always been a Steelers fan. Given the enthusiasm and connection he felt after meeting Tomlin, it’s safe to say that Skenes will likely become a Steelers fan moving forward.
Pittsburgh is a city renowned for its sports legends across the Steelers, Pirates, and Pittsburgh Penguins. With a rich history of great players, Skenes is poised to become the next standout for the Steel City. Though he has a long way to go, his impressive start has already set high expectations.
Steelers' Mike Tomlin Looking For Another Road Win In Week 2
As for Tomlin, his focus shifts back to his own team. The Steelers began the season with a strong performance in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. The Steelers were able to beat the Falcons 18-10. Pittsburgh didn't score any touchdowns but the six field goals from Chris Boswell propelled them to victory.

Now, Tomlin and his squad are set to pursue their second win of the season on the road against the Denver Broncos. It won't be an easy task to go on the road and get a win.
However, Pittsburgh is listed as road favorites to beat Denver. Russell Wilson isn't expected to be healthy enough to start so that means Tomlin will have to rely on Justin Fields again. Fields had a respectable game against the Falcons and will hope to lead the offense to some touchdowns against Denver.
