The Pittsburgh Steelers are still trying to find a way to fix their roster issues before the trade deadline. The team could use some help at wide receiver, and General Manager Omar Khan has been trying to get help at the position for months. Throughout training camp, Pittsburgh was in close talks with the San Francisco 49ers about acquiring Brandon Aiyuk, and over the last month or so, they have been involved in trade talks with the Las Vegas Raiders for star receiver, Davante Adams.

Obviously Khan and the Steelers missed out on both of those players. Aiyuk wound up signing a lucrative extension in San Francisco, and Adams was traded to the New York Jets on Tuesday morning - who Pittsburgh happens to play in Week 7. Even though those two receivers are off of the market, Pittsburgh still needs to find some help before the deadline on November 5th. A name to keep an eye on could be in New York, as Mike Williams becomes more expendable with the addition of Adams.

The Jets didn't necessarily need help at wide receiver, as both Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard have had great seasons in 2024. The addition was probably something Aaron Rodgers asked for, as the two played together for the Green Bay Packers for eight seasons. They will now reunite in New York, which makes Williams the odd-man out.

Williams gets bumped down to the fourth wide receiver with the Jets after the trade, and they didn't sign him for that reason. Through six games in the 2024 season, Williams has caught just 10 passes for 145 yards, and he could be capable of more if he were a bigger part of the game plan. It was reported on Tuesday that the Jets will be looking to move the talented receiver, and the Steelers could be a possible landing spot.

The veteran wide receiver was a free agent during the 2024 offseason, which is when he signed a one-year deal with the Jets. Before signing that deal, the Steelers had a good amount of interest in the receiver, and they even had a visit planned with the free agent. Unfortunately for Pittsburgh, Williams visited New York first and he never left. Williams could be a good addition for the Steelers as they desperately need some assistance at the receiver position.

Steelers Players Have Already Begun Recruiting Mike Williams

Pittsburgh utility-man Cordarrelle Patterson was very heavily recruiting Adams once the news broke that the star requested a trade. He has already begun to do the same with Williams, and Pittsburgh should have a good shot to land the wide receiver if they do want him.

Patterson's tactics didn't work for Adams, but they might work for Williams. The receiver would be in a much better position to succeed in Pittsburgh where the position group isn't so crowded. He would probably be the next-best option behind George Pickens for the Steelers, and his height and athleticism makes him a serious deep threat.

Pittsburgh would only have Williams for the remainder of the 2024 season, unless they rework his contract. It shouldn't cost too much draft capital to land the receiver either, which should make this deal a no-brainer.
