The Pittsburgh Steelers' last three games haven't ended up as they would have hoped. They were manhandled by three teams viewed as Super Bowl contenders and if Pittsburgh were able to win, or even compete in those games, they would have been thrusted into that same conversation. Now that the dust has settled, it seems that the question of who will be the guy to lead the Steelers' offense in the 2025 season doesn't have the answer as it did after their Week 13 win against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Mike Florio spoke with Chris Simms on Pro Football Talk about the future of the Steelers' quarterback room after their Christmas Day loss. He believes that Pittsburgh could do something similar as they did last offseason and get rid of everyone in their quarterback room.

"I think it's important for us to get ahead of what may be coming this offseason because it was just last year that the Steelers got rid of their entire quarterback room," said Florio. "Everybody, get out of here, we're starting over with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields and then they added Kyle Allen to be the number three. They could do the same thing this year because all of those guys are in the last year of their contracts."

Florio doesn't think either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields has done enough for the Steelers to stick with them in 2025. With the struggles that the Steelers' passing game has shown in the last three games, Omar Khan could hit the reset button once again and try to find his answer with another group of veteran quarterbacks that are available in the offseason.

"I'm going to say it, we've seen them making googly eyes at each other during games before and he's been playing well the past few weeks. Ole Aaron Rodgers, Mike Tomlin one ride together next year, I will tell you what, of all the choices that Rodgers may have or may not have and he's elevated I think and enhanced his chances for 2025 by how he's performed lately," said Florio. "That's one of their options. Kirk Cousins, Sam Darnold, ole Aaron Rodgers, another one year arrangement until they find their franchise guy, let's go get the best guy that we can for the lowest amount of money we can and make the best of it."

It could be back to square one for the Steelers going into the 2025 season. Relying on an aging veteran to lead their offense, but not having the answer to the future, especially signing Aaron Rodgers or Kirk Cousins, might not excite fans. The name that might intrigue fans is Sam Darnold, who is having a fantastic season for the Minnesota Vikings this year. Darnold will turn 28 years old in the summer and the seven year veteran could be the answer at quarterback for longer than a season while Khan finds their franchise guy in the NFL Draft.

The Steelers coming into the season have hoped that their problems with the quarterback room would have been solved with Wilson and Fields. It seems that the experiment with Wilson is making a turn for the worse as he's averaged just 177 yards through the air and six total touchdowns in his last four starts. If the Steelers feel that they've seen the best of Fields in his six starts, letting him walk in free agency could be what they believe is what best for both parties.

Steelers Facing Déjà Vu

The Steelers still can't seem to find the perfect guy to replace Ben Roethlisberger. While Wilson came out of the gates hot in his regular season debut against the New York Jets, he has seemed to fall back down to earth. Fields, while showing flashes of his potential, could sign somewhere else if the Steelers don't believe he is ready to be their future at quarterback.

The Steelers seemed to be back where they started in the 2024 offseason and it would seem that they are not any closer to finding their starting quarterback of the future.
