The Pittsburgh Steelers will be are under a lot of pressure from the fan base during the 2025 offseason. There are a ton of franchise-altering moves that need to be made in order for the team to be competitive, and that starts with finding a starting quarterback. Team President Art Rooney II has already announced that the team plans to re-sign either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields to be the starter in 2025, and it seems to be clear to everyone outside of the organization that Fields is the obvious choice.

It is still a mystery as to which quarterback the organization is leaning towards, although there were some reports that came out during Super Bowl week stating that Wilson has no chance of returning. NFL insider Adam Schefter announced during an appearance on Postseason NFL Countdown Sunday morning that the veteran still has a chance to be wearing the black and gold in 2025, while also discussing the expected market for Fields.

"There have been ongoing conversations between Russell Wilson and the organization about what to do in the future." Schefter said. "Returning to Pittsburgh remains a possibility for Russell Wilson, as it does for Justin Fields, the other quarterback. The Steelers have made it very clear they'd like to bring back one of those two quarterbacks. They have spoken to Russell, they'll be talking to Justin Fields, but there will be a market for Justin Fields. A number of teams interested in him, and we'll see whether or not that includes Pittsburgh in his future."

Fields is an exciting player due to his athleticism, and many teams should be interested in him as a bridge quarterback, or potentially the future of the franchise. Teams that have a ton of holes like the Tennessee Titans, who hold the first overall pick, could entertain trading back if they are able to sign a quarterback like Fields. This would set up the future of the franchise well thanks to an influx of draft capital, while also giving the organization a chance at quarterback.

Another factor that could cause the market to be large for Fields in free agency is the lack of talent in the 2025 quarterback class. Only two quarterbacks seem to be guaranteed to go in the first round, and neither is considered to be some generational prospect. Many struggling teams would probably rather take a flier on Fields than invest a premiere pick in a mediocre quarterback, which could spell trouble for Pittsburgh.

Free agency doesn't begin until the middle of March, which makes it extremely important that the Steelers are able to blow Fields away with a new deal before that time rolls around. It doesn't have to be some contract that breaks the bank, but something slightly above his market value can't hurt.

The young quarterback's current market value sits at $6.4 million per season. Pittsburgh should be able to convince him to re-sign on a two-year deal worth roughly $7 million per season. That would still be less than the organization paid Mitch Trubisky.

Steelers' Justin Fields Will Have A Ton Of Interested Parties

In addition to Tennessee, there a few organizations around the NFL that will likely pounce at the opportunity to sign Fields. One team that will be interesting is the Las Vegas Raiders, who just entered a new regime under a new general manager and Head Coach Pete Carroll. Carroll worked with a young Wilson with the Seattle Seahawks, so that pairing makes a little bit of sense.

Other teams that should show interest include the New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, and the New York Jets. The Steelers won't have to worry about this as long as the organization strikes a deal with the quarterback before free agency hits.
