Steelers Fans Get Inspiring Message About Omar Khan's Mindset Heading Into 2025 Offseason

The Pittsburgh Steelers are embarking on a pivotal offseason in 2025. There are plenty of holes on the roster that need to be fixed, while plenty of other positions also need to be upgraded. A large portion of the fan base wanted to see some significant changes on the coaching staff, and that did not happen. This makes it hard to be optimistic for the 2025 season, however the Steelers don't plan on entering training camp looking the exact same.

The lack of changes on the coaching staff was uninspiring, especially after such a pitiful end to the 2024 season. The Steelers were embarrassed in the playoffs once again while losing their final four games of the regular season. It was an utter collapse. Since there were no major coaching changes, other changes must come on the roster. The Steelers have all the tools to make the necessary moves. The franchise is in the top-10 in cap room, while also holding eight draft picks. Insider Ray Fittipaldo ensured fans on the North Shore Drive podcast that General Manager Omar Khan won't go into the season without making some splashes.

"Steelers fans, if you're worried about a guy who's just gonna sit back and maybe do things the old way, that's not Omar," Fittipaldo said. "At the very least, Omar's gonna try to shake things up and improve this roster in every single way."

Khan has been serving as the general manager in Pittsburgh for two seasons, and he has proven to be much more aggressive than his predecessor Kevin Colbert. Khan gave out the biggest free agent contract in franchise history during the 2024 offseason as the Steelers signed inside linebacker Patrick Queen, and he has plenty of resources to make similar moves in 2025.

Pittsburgh is currently projected to have roughly $60 million in cap space for the 2025 season, and that number could go up with a couple more cap casualties that are expected to be released. This gives the Steelers plenty of options in free agency, and one position Khan should be looking to upgrade is cornerback. There are two quality free agent corners available in Charvarius Ward and DJ Reed, and signing either could significantly improve the defense.

Other positions to keep an eye on are wide receiver and the defensive line. The futures of Tee Higgins, Cooper Kupp, and Deebo Samuel are all up in the air. Pittsburgh would certainly benefit from adding a productive, veteran wide receiver to the offense. On the defensive side of the ball, a name like Milton Williams is exciting. Williams just won Super Bowl LIX with the Philadelphia Eagles, and he is projected to sign a three-year deal worth $36 million. He had two sacks in the Super Bowl victory, and he could be an upgrade along the defensive line.

Steelers' Omar Khan Could Be Active In The Trade Market As Well

Having a good amount of cap space doesn't just allow the organization to be aggressive in pursuing free agents, but it also means the franchise can take on some larger contracts in the trade market. Khan tried bringing in some top-tier talent during the 2024 offseason via trade, but it did not work out for Pittsburgh.

The Steelers will be able to inquire with teams about certain players that have some large cap hits. An interesting name to watch could be Tyreek Hill, as he ended the 2024 season on a bad note with the Miami Dolphins. It could be completely understandable if the Dolphins wanted to part ways with Hill, and the Steelers could be a good landing spot. Other names will become available for trade throughout the 2025 offseason, and Khan will be keeping a close eye on every situation throughout the league.
