The Pittsburgh Steelers created massive headlines in the NFL on Sunday evening when the front office made the move to trade for Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf. The legal tampering period is set to begin on Monday at Noon, which is when fans in the Steel City should get a better idea about who will be playing quarterback in 2025. While it was always expected that either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields would be back on a short-term deal, the tides are turning, and the organization may be looking to sign another veteran signal-caller.

It is about to get extremely hectic in the NFL, and Adam Schefter will be one of the busiest individuals in sports media over the course of the new league year's first week. On Monday morning, he brought to light some important information regarding the Steelers' quarterback situation.

Aaron Rodgers is regarded as one of the best quarterbacks of all time, but has not looked quite right since tearing his Achilles in the season opener back in 2023. The New York Jets decided to part ways with the former Super Bowl champion after a poor 2024 campaign, and he is free to sign wherever he wants. It's always been known that he and Head Coach Mike Tomlin have a mutual respect for one another, making the union a legitimate possibility.

At some point, Pittsburgh will need to focus on the future, which is why the team could elect to sign Rodgers and then draft a quarterback to sit behind Rodgers for a season or two.

Steelers Will Be Extremely Active Early In New League Year

Pittsburgh has plenty of cap space, even after the Metcalf trade and extension. It will be interesting to see what the organization decides to do with it, but if Rodgers does come to town, fans will hope that he takes a discount so the offense can be built even more so around him. Rodgers wouldn't be a long-term play, but it's hard to deny that bringing in a future Hall of Famer wouldn't be pretty exciting in the Steel City.
