The Pittsburgh Steelers have historically been an NFL franchise that many players and coaches would find to be a privilege to be a part of. It could be their six Super Bowl titles, or the fact that they've only had three head coaches in the last fifty-plus years, going all the way back to 1969 when Chuck Noll was first hired. Even despite the Steelers not having a playoff win since January of 2017, Mike Tomlin remains a head coach that almost every player in the NFL would be ecstatic to play for.

Tomlin is still regarded as one of the best head coaches around the NFL, even though the Steelers haven't come close to a title in years. The glaring quarterback dilemma is an argument that could be made for or against Tomlin. It's hard to succeed as an organization without a franchise quarterback, which is something that left the Steelers' building after 2021. However, it remains Tomlin and the rest of the front office's responsibility to find that next quarterback, and they have failed to do so to this point.
Nonetheless, Tomlin's spicy personality and motivating skills is something that every player in the NFL would like to witness. On Thursday, new Steelers cornerback Darius Slay had Richard Sherman on his Big Play Slay podcast. Sherman revealed to Slay that he would have loved to have been coached by Tomlin.
"You're about to get to play for Mike T. man, that's going to be cool," Sherman admitted to Slay on the podcast. "That's something I kind of always wanted to do. Every time I talk to Mike T., man, he is so cool. He's so genuine."
Sherman was one of those players in the NFL that had a big, loud personality, and that's something that Tomlin has dealt with throughout his tenure as Pittsburgh's head coach. Slay followed up Sherman's comments by expressing his gratitude towards Tomlin for taking care of his veteran players.

Sherman was a big part of the Seattle Seahawks' "Legion of Boom" defense in the 2010s. The Seahawks had one of the best defensive backfields ever assembled, including Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor. Sherman, who retired after the 2021 season, had 37 career interceptions, 32 of which came in his time with the Seahawks from 2011 to 2017. Sherman is famously known for his intense matchup with Michael Crabtree during the 2013-14 NFC Championship game.

How do you think a Tomlin and Sherman pairing would have panned out? Tomlin has had his fair share of crazy personalities with his players, but Sherman would've been at the top of the list.
Steelers' Mike Tomlin Won't Draw Interest Of Players If Playoff Losing Spree Continues
It's quite interesting how many players around the NFL are so eager to come play for a team that has struggled mightily in the playoffs over the last decade. While the Steelers are always a competitive team in the AFC and have finished with a non-losing record every season under Tomlin, they only have three playoff wins over the last 10 years. If that drought continues for another two or three seasons, Tomlin and the Steelers will fall as a desired destination around the league.

What do you think about Sherman's comments about Tomlin? Should as many players be hoping and wishing to play for a coach like him and a team like the Steelers? Historically, the answer is an easy yes. In the last decade, the Steelers haven't been special, unfortunately.
