An Aaron Rodgers Insider Has A Ton Of Confidence In Pairing With Steelers: "This Is Going To Work Out"

The Pittsburgh Steelers' amount of success during the 2025 season is going to rely a ton on the quarterback position. There hasn't been this much uncertainty surrounding the most important position in football for the Steelers since well before Ben Roethlisberger was drafted. In 2024, the organization at least had two viable options in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, but currently the best option on the roster is Mason Rudolph. Rudolph is coming into a system he has never been in before, and there is no guarantee he will be able to play like he did at the end of the 2023 season.

The obvious hope is that Aaron Rodgers eventually signs with the Steelers. All signs point to that eventually happening as the four-time league MVP was a part of a throwing session with newly acquired wide receiver DK Metcalf. He also took a quality visit to Pittsburgh that lasted about six hours, and some have speculated that there is a handshake deal that is agreed on already between Rodgers and the organization.

A biography of Rodgers titled Out Of The Darkness: The Mystery Of Aaron Rodgers was released in 2024, and the author of that book, Ian O'Connor, joined 93.7 The Fan on Friday to discuss Rodgers. He shared some interesting insight on the veteran quarterback, and gave a prediction for what might happen with Rodgers in Pittsburgh.

"I actually think this is, maybe me as a optimist, I think this is going to work out," O'Connor said. "Do I think the Steelers are going to win the Super Bowl? No, but if you told me 11-6 with at least one playoff victory, the first with that franchise since 2016, I think that's realistic. I think that this could be a success story, and certainly a worthy ending for him."

The fan base in Pittsburgh is incredibly frustrated with the lack of recent playoff success for the Steelers. The franchise has not won a playoff game since the 2016 season as mentioned, but O'Connor believes that nasty streak could come to an end in 2025. A good portion of Pittsburgh fans want the team to struggle in 2025 so the organization can potentially land a franchise quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft, but O'Connor believes the complete opposite will happen.

Rodgers has not had much success over the last two seasons with the New York Jets. In 2023, he suffered a devastating Achilles injury, and things did not go as planned in 2024. The Jets struggled as a whole, but Rodgers' play improved as the season went along. This was likely due to the quarterback putting more time between the present and his injury, and knocking the rust off after not playing in a live game for a year.

The veteran will likely have a better roster around him in Pittsburgh, which means the ceiling for the team should be higher. If the Steelers can keep pace in the AFC North, there is no reason the team can't position itself to win at least a playoff game or two.

Steelers Should Expect Aaron Rodgers To Join The Team Soon

While Rodgers and the franchise probably have a handshake deal agreed on, nothing will be official until the quarterback puts pen to paper on an official NFL contract. O'Connor believes this could happen soon, and he mentioned that June 10th is a good date to expect the quarterback to be in Pittsburgh. That is the start of mandatory minicamp in Pittsburgh, and he doesn't think Rodgers would miss that. He does believe that Rodgers probably isn't worried about missing Organized Team Activities (OTAs), and neither is Head Coach Mike Tomlin.

Fans have been waiting on Rodgers for about two months now, but the wait should be over soon. Assuming Rodgers continues to play football, he will be wearing the black and gold shortly.
