It’s no secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers are currently facing a chaotic and uncertain quarterback situation. With no clear starter in place at one of the most critical positions on the field, the team finds itself under increased scrutiny, especially as offseason programs approach. Much of the speculation centers around veteran free agent Aaron Rodgers, whose potential arrival has dominated headlines. Reports suggest there may be a handshake agreement between Rodgers and the Steelers already, but without an official commitment, everything remains simply speculation, leaving fans and analysts anxiously waiting.

The prolonged wait for Rodgers has left many fans second-guessing the Steelers’ choice to part ways with recent quarterbacks. Among those people is former Steelers safety, Mike Logan. During a recent appearance on the Kaboly + Mack podcast, Logan shared his perspective on the situation and revealed who he believed was going to be the franchise’s future.

"I thought they would give Justin [Fields] a deal and extend him, and he would be our future, but right now, we're in disarray," Logan shared.

Fields joined the Steelers in the 2024 offseason after being traded from the Chicago Bears, where he spent the first three seasons of his NFL career. Once considered a potential franchise quarterback in Chicago, Fields showed flashes of dynamic playmaking ability, but struggled with consistency, accuracy, and decision-making in a system that often failed to maximize his strengths. Upon arriving in Pittsburgh, Fields was viewed as someone who could potentially revive his career under new coaching and in a different environment. However, despite his athleticism and potential, Fields was unable to secure the starting role and was ultimately traded away after a brief time with the team.

Fields did get a chance to showcase his skills as a starter during his time in Pittsburgh. At the same time the Steelers brought him in, they also signed veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, who was initially named the starter. However, an early offseason calf injury sidelined Wilson, opening the door for Fields to start the first six games of the season. Fields made the most of the opportunity, leading the team to a solid 4-2 start. Despite his success, he was ultimately benched upon Wilson’s return to full health, causing debates about the team’s quarterback direction.

Both Fields and Wilson signed short-term, one-year deals with the Steelers during the previous offseason, making them free agents this offseason. Neither quarterback re-signed with the team, contributing to the current uncertainty at the position. Like Logan, many believed the team would keep Fields, given his young age and flashes of potential during his time as a starter. However, Fields ultimately chose to sign with the New York Jets, where he is expected to take over as the starting quarterback, leaving the Steelers still searching for a long-term answer under center.

Steelers Are In A Waiting Game With Rodgers

It’s no secret that the Steelers are in a holding pattern, waiting on a final decision from Rodgers. Despite numerous reports and persistent rumors suggesting that a deal is likely or even informally agreed upon, no official announcement has been made, keeping the situation shrouded in uncertainty. As time drags on, both Rodgers and the Steelers organization have come under growing scrutiny.

Frustrated fans and critical analysts are beginning to voice concerns that the team is mishandling the situation. Many feel that the front office has lost too much control, allowing Rodgers to dictate the timeline. This perception has led to questions about the team's leadership, direction, and overall strategy when it comes to securing such a vital position. With each day that passes without a concrete update, the pressure continues to mount.

Do you think that Rodgers will eventually sign? If so, when is he going to make it official? Let us know in the comments below!
