The Pittsburgh Steelers are navigating a whirlwind surrounding their quarterback situation. It’s clear there’s a significant void at the position, and the media hasn’t shied away from spotlighting the uncertainty. The Steelers currently have three quarterbacks on their roster, and much of the ongoing discussion centers around who will be the fourth. In a recent interview with Missi Matthews for the Steelers, current quarterback Mason Rudolph acknowledged that the team is expected to bring in another quarterback, even though the actual person remains unknown.
"I know they're going to add somebody," Rudolph shared. "It's just a question of who it will be."
Although the Steelers have yet to name a starting quarterback for the 2025 NFL season, they remain strong contenders to sign veteran free agent Aaron Rodgers. Known not only for his impressive football skills, but also for the media attention surrounding his off-field persona, Rodgers has once again become the center of speculation. His delayed decision regarding whether he’ll join the Steelers has created growing anticipation and anxiety among fans, as the team continues to wait for clarity at the game’s most critical position.
The reason behind Rodgers’ delayed decision remains unclear. While he has cited personal matters as the cause, speculation continues to grow. Some question whether he’s truly committed to joining a team as passionate and intense as the Steelers, while others doubt his willingness to fully engage in the hard core preparation required during the offseason.

With offseason programs starting recently, this is familiar territory for Rodgers. Rodgers is no stranger to missing offseason programs, a pattern that has followed him throughout the later part of his career. During his final seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers frequently opted out of OTAs (Organized Team Activities) and other offseason sessions, choosing to train on his own. While his absence was often justified by his veteran status and experience, it often drew criticism, especially when it came to building chemistry with younger teammates or integrating into new systems.
This trend continued during his brief time with the New York Jets, where he also limited his offseason participation. As rumors continue to grow about his potential move to Pittsburgh, fans and analysts are once again questioning his commitment to offseason preparation and ability to lead the offense.
With no official commitment yet from Rodgers, Rudolph currently stands as the team's starting quarterback. As expected, this development has sparked mixed reactions. Some fans question Rodgers' ability to be truly committed to stepping into a leadership role, while others remain uncertain about Rudolph’s ability to lead the team to consistent success over a full season.
Steelers Have Been Adding Some Offensive Weapons
Another major storyline making headlines was the Steelers' trade of wide receiver George Pickens. The move came after the team acquired dynamic veteran wide receiver DK Metcalf earlier this offseason. While many fans anticipated a thrilling duo between Pickens and Metcalf, Pickens' departure still paves the way for an exciting new offensive threat. During the 2025 NFL Draft, even Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith expressed his enthusiasm, stating his intent to build an explosive offense centered around Metcalf’s elite playmaking ability.

The Steelers also bolstered their rushing attack. After the notable departure of running back Najee Harris, they used their coveted third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to select running back Kaleb Johnson. With no second-round pick available, this third-round choice carries even greater weight. Johnson has quickly become a player to watch during offseason programs, as he possesses the potential to earn significant carries early on and make a lasting impact on the ground game for years ahead.
Regardless of who takes the reins at quarterback when the regular season kicks off, the Steelers' offense is loaded with talent and poised to be exciting to watch. With many strong options, there are plenty of playmakers ready to step up.
