Steelers Insider Sends Revealing Warning To Fans About Mike Tomlin

Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin has been one of the most polarizing coaches in the NFL as of late. On one hand, Tomlin has never had a losing season in 18 years. That level of consistency is truly remarkable in the ever-competitive NFL and has earned him significant job security. It also fits the Steelers' organizational philosophy, as the team has only had three head coaches since 1969.

On the other hand, Tomlin's recent playoff record has left much to be desired. Despite having rosters loaded with talent, the Steelers have not won a playoff game since the 2016 season. That drought has frustrated fans who expect more from a franchise with a rich history of postseason success. Many believe Tomlin's teams have underachieved when it matters most, leading to increased criticism from the fan base.

Still, those calling for change might be disappointed. Steelers insider Gerry Dulac recently stated that Tomlin's job is as secure as it has ever been, regardless of what happens in 2025. The Rooney family has always valued loyalty, leadership, and long-term vision, and Tomlin continues to embody those traits. While some fans may be restless, the organization remains firmly behind its head coach.

"It depends who you ask," Dulac said in regards to Tomlin's seat being hot or not. "People around here believe he is not only on a warm seat, but a very hot seat, and that is just not the case. And I don't think Tomlin and Art Rooney have talked about the insanity of it all. The fans do that."

According to Dulac, there is no reason to believe that Tomlin's job is in jeopardy. In fact, Dulac made it clear that he believes Team President Art Rooney II is fully supportive of Tomlin and sees no need for a change, even with the recent playoff struggles.

Clearly, Rooney still holds a great deal of trust in Tomlin’s leadership and remains confident that he is the man to eventually guide the team out of its postseason drought. However, many around the league question whether that trust is still deserved. No other coach in any major sports league would likely survive the kind of playoff shortcomings and late-season collapses Tomlin has endured. Supporters often defend him by pointing to his ability to "do more with less," but critics argue that the lack of talent ultimately falls back on Tomlin himself.

If his teams are consistently under-equipped to compete deep into the playoffs, then why isn’t he being held accountable for the roster construction, player development, or game management that contribute to those deficiencies? On top of that, he has made several lone ranger decisions that have not worked out the way he had hoped. No matter how much Steelers fans admire Tomlin, the bill has to be paid at some point in their eyes.

Steelers Fans Believe It's Time To Get Dramatic With Mike Tomlin

Steelers fans have grown increasingly frustrated by what they see as a lack of accountability.

During the 2024 season, after an embarrassing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in which the Steelers were clearly outcoached, Tomlin downplayed the situation when speaking to insider Brooke Pryor, saying, "It’s not time to get dramatic." It clearly was time to get dramatic.

That response didn’t sit well with the fan base—especially as the team went on to lose every remaining game, transforming from a Super Bowl contender to a team that couldn’t even compete down the stretch. For many in Pittsburgh, Tomlin’s unwillingness to make drastic changes or accept blame has become a recurring theme, and patience is wearing thin.
