The Pittsburgh Steelers have always been competing for a spot in the postseason with Head Coach Mike Tomlin running the show. Fans have started to get flustered; however, because the team has not won a playoff game since the 2016 campaign. In 2025, the organization still believes it can make a run in a stacked AFC, and this was made very clear when the franchise pursued future Hall of Fame quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. At long last, it was reported on Thursday that the veteran signal-caller is planning to put pen to paper and play in the Steel City for at least one year.

While the Steelers finally have a legitimate answer to the quarterback position, the offense still has some questions. This is most notable at wide receiver, especially after the front office made the decision to trade George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. General Manager Omar Khan is expected to be active in the coming months to bolster the offensive unit.

Now that Rodgers is set to be on the depth chart, a few names come to mind when thinking about potential trade targets. Free agency will be an option too, but there are certain players that have experience with the veteran working under center, which could lead to some inquiries by Khan.

1.) Allen Lazard - New York Jets

Rodgers and Allen Lazard go way back to their days with the Green Bay Packers. The two have actually never spent a professional season on different rosters. This should potentially play a part in an acquisition via the trade market. Lazard recently negotiated his deal with the New York Jets, but now that Rodgers has found a landing spot, the wide receiver could push his way to the Steel City.

Lazard isn't necessarily a game-changing wideout, but his rapport with Rodgers could go a very long way. In 2024, the pass-catcher hauled in 37 catches for 530 yards and six touchdowns.

2.) Romeo Doubs - Green Bay Packers

Lazard is the most ideal trade target when looking to find someone that has experience with Rodgers, but Romeo Doubs also spent some time with the quarterback in Green Bay. The wideout had a respectable 46 catches for 601 yards and three touchdowns during his first professional season in 2022. Entering the final year on his rookie contract, Doubs may not cost too much in a deal.

The Steelers need another weapon or two on offense, and Doubs would certainly give the unit a play-maker. The wide receivers' room for the Packers is extremely packed, and it wouldn't come as a surprise if the organization decided to trade one of the players that are currently on the depth chart.

3.) Christian Watson - Green Bay Packers

It's not likely that the Steelers would be open to trading for someone who is coming off of a torn ACL, but Christian Watson has reportedly been progressing extremely well. It was recently reported that the wideout is ahead of schedule in the recovery process. This could be just enough information for a team like Pittsburgh to take a chance at a low-risk, high-reward option.

Watson has struggled with injury since arriving to the NFL, but has the skill set to be elite when healthy. With Rodgers at the helm in Green Bay back in 2022, Watson had a better rookie season than Doubs, hauling in 41 catches for 611 yards and seven touchdowns. If he truly is progressing well as he recovers from a knee injury, he could be worth a look if trades for Lazard or Doubs don't materialize.

Steelers Are A Couple Of Offensive Weapons Away From Being Electrifying

If Rodgers can come to Pittsburgh and compete at a high level, he will make everyone else around him better. That's what he has done throughout his career. The addition of one, or maybe two, more reliable players on the offensive side of the ball could lead to the unit being much more respected in 2025. Time will tell, but Khan could already be on the phones attempting to make a deal or two.
