The Pittsburgh Steelers have been entangled in a saga with four-time league MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers all offseason. The waiting game grew incredibly tiring for Steeler Nation, but on Thursday, it finally appeared to have an end in sight—and it’s a good one.

Rodgers informed the Steelers on Thursday, via NFL insider Tom Pelissero, that he plans to fly to Pittsburgh on Friday and sign before next week’s minicamp. Sources tell The Insiders that it’s officially a done deal: Rodgers, now 41, will suit up for his 21st NFL season, this time in black and gold.

NFL insider Adam Schefter was quick to point out the drama baked into Rodgers’ upcoming season, calling it a "personal revenge tour," courtesy of the NFL’s schedule makers. The 2025 slate features showdowns against the New York Jets, Green Bay Packers, and other familiar faces from Rodgers’ past. Whether it’s proving something to old teams, silencing doubters, or simply chasing one more ring, Rodgers won’t be short on motivation. And now, he’ll be doing it with a Steelers logo on his helmet.

With Rodgers now locked in, the Steelers finally have the most important position figured out for the 2025 season. After months of speculation, rumors, and lingering doubt, the future Hall of Famer brings instant credibility, leadership, and championship expectations to Pittsburgh.

For a franchise that has struggled to find quarterback stability since Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement, the relief among the fan base is both palpable and well-earned. Rodgers’ presence should immediately raise the ceiling for a team that still boasts one of the NFL’s strongest defenses and a new but should be solid run game.

Rodgers’ 2025 season with the Steelers is shaping up to be more than just a fresh start. It looks like a full-blown revenge tour. The most obvious matchup comes right away in Week 1 when the Steelers travel to face the Jets. After spending two seasons with the Jets and finishing 2024 with just five wins, the team decided they did not want Rodgers anymore. He will be eager to prove they made the wrong decision.

Week 8 is another key date as Rodgers faces the Packers, the team he spent 18 seasons with. While several years have passed since the split, it is still a game filled with meaning for Rodgers. Week 12 brings a trip to Chicago to face the Bears, a team he feuded with for years in the NFC North. Now wearing black and gold, Rodgers will be looking to keep that dominance going.

Some, like Schefter, have pointed to the Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions as potential revenge games as well. The Vikings game in Week 4 stands out the most, since reports made it clear Minnesota did not want Rodgers in 2025. He will not forget that slight when the Steelers host them. Others argued that the Seahawks and Lions are not revenge games.

Steelers Finally Have Clarity Heading Into 2025

Either way, whether those games qualify as true revenge matchups or not, the Steelers now have much more clarity heading into the 2025 season. And it is massive to know that Rodgers will officially be part of the team. His offseason saga frustrated a large portion of the fan base, but a few wins to open the year would quickly change the narrative.

If Rodgers leads the Steelers on a playoff run, the 2025 season and his arrival in the Steel City will almost certainly be viewed as a success. That is the expectation now. Rodgers did not come to Pittsburgh just to fill a spot. He came to chase another championship.

With his signing, the bar has been raised. Whether those expectations are fair remains up for debate, but there is no denying the excitement that now surrounds this team.
