The Pittsburgh Steelers are expecting DK Metcalf to perform at an all-time high this upcoming season. Metcalf, who was acquired by Pittsburgh in a deal with the Seattle Seahawks a number of months ago, will play a major role on Arthur Smith's offense throughout his first season in the Steel City. He may prove to be a major beneficiary of four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers as well, as the two have already reportedly worked out privately, beginning the process of developing chemistry between each other early.

Smith, who is entering his second season as the Steelers' offensive coordinator, is expected to run plays revolving around Metcalf often, as the former Seahawk continues to cement himself as the Steelers' clear wide receiver one (WR1). Metcalf's impact may be felt off the field as well, as younger wideouts such as Calvin Austin lll and Roman Wilson could benefit from playing alongside the veteran wideout. When asked for his thoughts on his fit in Smith's offense, Metcalf did not hold back and gave fans a very promising answer.

"He's unique and I think he's heavy in the play pass realm," Metcalf stated. "So you know me, just trying to learn a lot of different terminology on offense."

Metcalf then went on to mention that he is still learning, stating he is trying to incorporate himself more and more.

"I'm still trying to get my feet wet with his terminology in the offense, but I'm trying to incorporate myself into it where we are speaking the same language by the time we hit training camp to where we both can help each other on and off the field," Metcalf explained.

Metcalf's comments make a lot of sense, as the star wide receiver is still getting situated throughout his first few months in Pittsburgh. The former Seahawk shined during his time in Seattle, as he is credited with two Pro Bowl appearances over the first six years of his career. Although he is still learning, Metcalf is nothing short of an elite wide receiver and should have no problem figuring everything out by the start of training camp in late July.

At 6'4", 235 pounds, Metcalf should easily be able to pick up right where he left off in Seattle as one of the top receivers in the entire NFL. The Steelers signed Metcalf to a five-year, $150 million contract following the trade, and will look for him to help carry the team's offense. If Pittsburgh wants any shot this season at being successful, Metcalf will have to have a huge year statistically.

Steelers' Calvin Austin lll Continues To Emerge Behind Metcalf On Depth Chart

With Rodgers recently officially signing a one-year deal to play for the Steelers, Pittsburgh is expected to shift their attention towards establishing a true wide receiver two (WR2) for the veteran quarterback. With no clear option behind Metcalf, Austin lll and Wilson are expected to continue fighting for the role throughout the course of training camp. Austin lll, who reportedly has continued to shine and make a major impact throughout these early stages, is widely regarded as the frontrunner for Pittsburgh's WR2 role. The Steelers may opt to evaluate the free agency market as well, as multiple big name receivers remain available on the market, such as Gabe Davis and Keenan Allen.

Steelers Wide Receivers Coach Zach Azzanni was recently quoted saying, "I think that two spot is all Calvin's right now." With Austin lll continuing to emerge as an option, the team may elect to give the rising star a legitimate shot. As the start of training camp remains over a month away, Pittsburgh is expected to take their time and leave all options on the table.
