The Pittsburgh Steelers are inching closer and closer to the 2025 official regular season—but first comes the preseason, training camp, and the rest of the offseason grind. For the Steelers, they’ve finally gained clarity at the most important position in all of sports. That happened when 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers ended his offseason saga and officially revealed he would be leading the Steelers offense in 2025. With Rodgers on board, Pittsburgh can now turn its attention toward building chemistry and momentum ahead of what they hope is a championship-caliber season.

Rodgers brings a Hall of Fame résumé and sky-high expectations with him, and now he’s tasked with elevating an offense that struggled to find consistency last year. The Steelers are counting on his leadership, arm talent, and football IQ to bring much-needed balance to a team that has long relied on its dominant defense and strong special teams play. With training camp just around the corner, Rodgers will be front and center as the Steelers begin molding their 2025 identity.
As the season inches nearer, one key development was revealed by NFL insider Ari Meirov: the Steelers will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a joint practice on August 14th in Pittsburgh. This session will offer Rodgers and the rest of the offense an important test against live competition before regular season action heats up. For the coaching staff, it’s an opportunity to evaluate players in a high-intensity environment, and for fans, it marks another step in what’s shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Steelers seasons in recent memory.

Joint practices are always an exciting part of the offseason, offering both teams a chance to engage in high-level competition in a controlled, practice setting. They bring a different energy than standard training camp sessions, often providing more intensity and urgency as players go up against unfamiliar opponents.

Steelers insider Brian Batko also shared additional details about the upcoming joint practice, giving fans a clearer picture of what to expect when the Buccaneers come to town.
"The NFL officially announced Steelers-Bucs joint practice 8/14 two days before their preseason barnburner at Acrisure Stadium," Batko said. "And the location is listed as Pittsburgh, so they won't be doing it at Saint Vincent College. Last year's joint practice with Bills was at Acrisure."
The Steelers had a joint practice against the Buffalo Bills at Acrisure Stadium last year, so Batko expects this year’s session with the Buccaneers to be held at the same location. Practicing at Acrisure gives players a valuable chance to get comfortable in a stadium environment while preparing under more game-like conditions.
Steelers Will Get Lots Of Value Out Of Joint Practice
For the Steelers, this joint practice will serve as an important checkpoint. With Rodgers now leading the offense, every rep carries weight. The team will be looking to build timing, test physicality, and set the tone for a roster that has undergone major changes. Facing off against Tampa Bay in a structured but competitive setting gives Pittsburgh the opportunity to fine-tune its schemes while evaluating which players are ready to contribute.

This practice will also help establish the identity of the 2025 Steelers. With a veteran quarterback under center and a defense that remains the heart of the team, the focus now shifts to how quickly this group can come together. August 14 will not just be about going through the motions. It will be about building trust, establishing rhythm, and proving that this team is ready to make a serious run when the regular season finally arrives.
