The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a very interesting type of offseason. The offense has been reshaped at some key positions, and the Steelers finally got clarity on the quarterback situation when Aaron Rodgers decided he would be joining the team for the 2025 season. With Rodgers now in the picture, the offense appears to have a clear direction for the first time in years, giving fans hope that the team is ready to make a serious push for a championship.

Now that the offense has some stability, attention has shifted to the defensive side of the ball—specifically, the secondary. Seven-time All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey has reportedly been made available by the Miami Dolphins, and the Steelers are one of the teams rumored to be monitoring the situation closely. If the price is right, General Manager Omar Khan could take a swing at landing Ramsey, giving Pittsburgh a proven, elite-level playmaker to bolster a unit that still has some question marks.

On Friday, NFL insider Adam Schefter appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and delivered a significant update regarding Ramsey’s situation. Schefter confirmed that the Dolphins are engaged in trade talks and that he expects Ramsey to be moved before training camp begins.

"The Dolphins continue to have conversations about trading Jalen Ramsey, and I think that a trade there will get done," Schefter said. "The question is, when does it get done? Next week? The week after? Prior to the start of training camp? I don’t know exactly when it’s gonna be, but Jalen Ramsey will get traded."

While no deal is imminent, this could be a key moment for the Steelers to strike.

With the offense set and the defense potentially one player away, the addition of Ramsey could be the final piece in what’s shaping up to be one of the boldest roster moves in recent Steelers history.

"He will be traded, and I would expect it to happen before training camp," Schefter said. "I think he would like to go to the West Coast—to Los Angeles, Rams or Chargers, or somewhere like that."

The first thing Schefter pointed out is that Ramsey appears to prefer a move to the West Coast. However, if the Steelers can land him without giving up too much in return, the move could still make a lot of sense.

While Ramsey may no longer be the same elite cornerback he once was, he likely still has plenty of good football left and could bring valuable experience to Pittsburgh’s secondary.

Steelers' Secondary Could Be Improved Greatly With Jalen Ramsey

The Steelers added Darius Slay this offseason on a one-year deal worth $10 million. Slay is expected to solidify the side opposite of rising young cornerback Joey Porter Jr. That pairing is promising, but the main concern is Slay’s age, as he turns 34 this year. If the Steelers were to acquire Ramsey, they would have three strong cornerbacks with the ability to rotate and contribute in multiple roles.

Pulling off a trade for Ramsey would be a major move to strengthen a secondary that showed its vulnerabilities late in the 2024 season. With the offense finally settled around Rodgers, improving the pass defense could be the final piece to help the Steelers contend. Ramsey's presence would raise the standard in the defensive backfield and reinforce the team’s commitment to winning now.

Slay and Porter are an exciting duo for the 2025 season, but adding Ramsey could give the Steelers even more depth and talent, along with veteran presences who have been there and done that. All eyes are on Khan and the Steelers as the 2025 season continues to inch closer.
