The Pittsburgh Steelers have had quite an interesting offseason. The decision to sign Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback for the 2025 season was certainly eye opening and caught many fans and analysts off guard. Rodgers brings veteran experience, leadership, and a sense of urgency to a team that clearly believes it can compete right now. With Rodgers at the helm, Pittsburgh is aiming for a serious playoff push and possibly even a Super Bowl run.

Pittsburgh has continued to make aggressive moves, and General Manager Omar Khan made headlines on Monday morning with a blockbuster trade. The Steelers sent All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Miami Dolphins and received star cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith in return. While there were other details and picks involved, the major takeaway is the talent exchange. Fitzpatrick was a key piece of the defense for years, but some around the league had started to question whether his best days were behind him.

According to Steelers insider Dorin Dickerson, the moves may not be over. He posted on social media after the trade that he believes Khan is still working the phones and looking for ways to improve the roster. With training camp approaching and expectations higher than they have been in years, Pittsburgh seems fully committed to building a team that can win now. If the right opportunity presents itself, more big moves could be on the way.

"Almost pretty sure the Steelers aren’t done," Dickerson said. "More to come."

The Steelers acquiring Smith is certainly an interesting and calculated move. It is a clear effort to give Rodgers as many reliable weapons as possible as he begins his first season in Pittsburgh. Smith is coming off a Pro Bowl year in 2024, where he proved to be a dynamic option in the passing game and a valuable contributor in the red zone.

The Steelers already had two young tight ends in Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington who were expected to benefit greatly from Rodgers' presence. Now, with Smith joining the room, Pittsburgh suddenly has three dependable tight ends who can each bring something different to the offense. This gives offensive coordinator Arthur Smith a unique opportunity to use creative formations and take advantage of mismatches across the field.

At the same time, there are still serious concerns about the Steelers’ wide receiver depth. After trading to land DK Metcalf, the team has a clear number one target, but the talent behind him remains unproven. Several players on the roster have potential, but none have consistently produced at the level required to support a veteran quarterback trying to lead a playoff run.

This has left many fans uneasy and has fueled speculation about another possible move. When Dickerson said that Khan is not done making changes, many took that as a hint that the Steelers may still be looking to bring in another wide receiver before the season begins.

Steelers' Omar Khan Has Been Super Aggressive

Fans spent much of the last year demanding change, and while the Steelers did not overhaul the coaching staff as many hoped, the front office has taken a much more aggressive approach to reshaping the roster. The additions of Rodgers, Metcalf, Ramsey, and now Smith show that Khan and his staff are determined to build a team capable of competing right away.

They are not interested in a slow rebuild or waiting for young talent to develop. Instead, they are taking big swings and making bold decisions in an effort to put together the most competitive roster possible for the 2025 season. It is clear that the Steelers have heard the criticism, and they are doing everything in their power to respond with action. Many fans felt like Pittsburgh needed to enter a rebuild in 2025. Instead, Pittsburgh doubled down, got older and went all in on trying to win a Super Bowl now.
