The Pittsburgh Steelers have been busy this offseason, making several big moves across various position groups. At the same time, they’ve parted ways with some key players who once played important roles on the team, leaving noticeable gaps that still need to be addressed. As the regular season inches closer, discussions centered around the team are only heating up. Everyone is weighing in, offering their thoughts on whether the Steelers should continue making moves, and if so, which areas still need attention before the season begins.

Recently, Steelers insider Mark Kaboly joined 93.7 The Fan to break down and discuss the team’s eventful offseason. With all the recent moves, speculation has continued about whether the Steelers might still be looking to add more pieces, especially at the wide receiver position. When Kaboly was specifically asked about the possibility of bringing in veteran wide receiver Allen Lazard, he gave a response that may be surprising to some.

"They have three Allen Lazards on this team already," Kaboly shared.

Rumors and reports connecting Lazard to the Steelers started circulating around the same time Aaron Rodgers was first rumored to be headed to Pittsburgh. Even though Lazard isn’t a free agent, many speculated that he could potentially follow Rodgers, just as he did when Rodgers made the move to the New York Jets. Because of their strong connection both on and off the field originating from their time on the Green Bay Packers, fans and analysts often group them together when talking about possible roster moves.

Now, with Rodgers recently saying that this upcoming season could be his final one in the NFL, the idea of Lazard reuniting with him becomes even more intriguing. Being left behind in a Jets offense without Rodgers could lessen Lazard’s appeal in New York and make the opportunity to join Pittsburgh more enticing, particularly if he sees it as a chance to contribute meaningfully while playing alongside a friend one last time.

It’s no secret that the Steelers have been actively searching for a reliable second wide receiver over the past few seasons. Until recently, the goal was to find someone who could pair up alongside George Pickens. However, with Pickens now gone and DK Metcalf joining the team as a major offseason addition, the focus has shifted to finding a strong complement to Metcalf instead. This change opens up a potential role for Lazard, who could be a solid fit within the roster. His prior chemistry and on-field experience with Rodgers would give the Steelers an added advantage.

However, it seems that Kaboly doesn’t believe Lazard is a necessary addition to the Steelers’ roster, as he feels the team already has players with similar skill sets in-house. While conversations continue around potential wide receiver targets, the Steelers might not want to make any further additions at the position. The recent blockbuster trade that brought in tight end Jonnu Smith has been included in reports that he will be used as more than just a traditional tight end, he’s expected to play a key role as a receiving slot threat.

On top of that, Wide Receivers Coach Zach Azzanni recently confirmed that Calvin Austin III has been named the team’s wide receiver two (WR2). With Metcalf firmly in place as the clear WR1, the combination of Metcalf, Austin, and Smith gives Rodgers multiple reliable weapons, with more on the roster. If they all perform as expected, the Steelers' passing game could be far better than many initially thought.

The Steelers Have Mounting Pressure

With all the changes made this offseason, the Steelers are facing growing pressure for success, not just as a team, but individually as well. For Rodgers, who has shared that this could be his final season, there's a strong desire to finish his career on a high note. For Austin, the motivation lies in proving he’s capable of stepping up as a starter and showing the team they don’t need to spend on a veteran to get strong production.

These are just a few examples, but across the roster, players are fueled by opportunity, expectation, and the drive to make an impact. With a fresh new look, the Steelers are shaping up to be one of the most exciting teams to watch this upcoming season.
