The Pittsburgh Steelers' offense in 2025 will look a lot different from the unit we saw in 2024. They signed four-time MVP and future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a one-year deal in June, and the veteran will look to perform at a high level throughout his 21st NFL season. The question is, did the Steelers do enough this offseason to surround him with significant talent.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) practices at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex during the 2025 minicamp, Tuesday June 10, 2025.

Rodgers will join Arthur Smith's offensive unit following a two-year tenure with the New York Jets, as an Achilles injury suffered on the opening drive of the 2023 season cost the veteran the rest of the year. Rodgers could be a serious threat with DK Metcalf and Calvin Austin lll as top options, as Austin will look to make an impact in the final year of his rookie deal. The Steelers have been rumored to continue evaluating the market for wide receiver depth, despite having Metcalf and Austin, as many feel like the team may be lacking depth at the position.

As speculation continues to surround Pittsburgh's wide receiver depth, Steelers insider Mark Kaboly took a moment to share some insight as to who may or may not still be on General Manager Omar Khan's radar.

"I think we can pretty much say that Gabe Davis is out," Kaboly stated. "I mean if they wanted him, they would've signed him already."

Davis was seen in Pittsburgh earlier in the offseason, but the former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars receiver left the Steelers' facilities with no deal in place. A five-year veteran, Davis had a down year in Jacksonville after posting 239 yards over 20 receptions last season. Davis was a major weapon throughout his time in Buffalo, as the receiver will look to get back on track with a new team in 2025.

At 6'2", 225 pounds, Davis would have likely proven to be a serviceable option behind Metcalf and Austin barring injury. He's still expected to sign with a new team however, as the start of training camp has already begun for many teams across the league. The Steelers are expected to continue evaluating their options in free agency, as the team may add wide receiver depth in the near future.

Steelers To Continue Evaluating Receiving Depth Throughout Training Camp

With Metcalf and Austin solidified as the top playmaking options at wideout, Pittsburgh is expected to evaluate the rest of the wide receiver room throughout camp in hopes of finding a true third option. Former Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith may emerge as an elite target as well, as Smith is a dynamic weapon who can play multiple positions on the Steelers' offense. Smith was credited with a career year in 2024, as the Pro Bowler hauled in 884 yards over 88 receptions last year. He was recently acquired in a trade with star cornerback Jalen Ramsey that sent All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick back to Miami.

With Davis more than likely off of Pittsburgh's radar for good, the team is expected to leave multiple options on the table and may turn to the talent that is already on the roster. Austin is expected to shine throughout 2025, as the rising star will look to put himself in the best situation possible entering next year's free agency market. With training camp set to begin this week, fans can expect to get their first glimpse at multiple new players practicing in Steelers uniforms for the first time very soon.
