The Pittsburgh Steelers' 2025 offseason featured multiple bold moves on both sides of the ball. Pittsburgh added significant veterans on offense, as General Manager Omar Khan traded for former Seattle Seahawks star DK Metcalf, followed by the free-agent signing of future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. With a number of new faces set to make their respective Steelers debuts this season, many feel as if Pittsburgh's offensive unit could be flying under the radar entering 2025.

Metcalf, a 6'4", 235-pound wide receiver out of Ole Miss, is an elite receiver who should thrive as Pittsburgh's top option. Metcalf should benefit from playing with Rodgers as well, as the veteran duo has the potential to be one of the deadliest deep ball connections in all of football. With Metcalf set to make a major impact throughout his first season in Pittsburgh, many believe that the Steelers could have a top offensive unit should everyone prove to be fully healthy.

Metcalf was asked for his thoughts on Pittsburgh's offense entering the 2025 season, and the veteran feels as if many people could be sleeping on the unit in 2025.

"I think we're going to shock a lot of people," Metcalf stated. "I know there are questions about, 'Can we figure it all out?'"

Metcalf then went on to speak about the team being together at training clamp, as the veteran claims working together will allow for a better connection between all involved.

"I mean we're at a destination [for training camp], so we have no choice but to learn each other, figure each other out."

Many would agree with Metcalf's comments, as Pittsburgh's mix of younger and veteran players may prove to play a key role in their success throughout 2025. Metcalf may find himself taking on an expanded off-field role as well, as the former Seahawk is expected to be an excellent mentor for Calvin Austin lll. Austin, who is entering the final season of his rookie deal, is a promising young receiver who will look to make an impact throughout his contract year.

Rodgers will almost certainly be a key factor in the Steelers' success this season, as the veteran is still just three years removed from winning his last MVP award in 2021. Rodgers is expected to be fully healthy for the start of 2025, as an Achilles injury suffered on the opening drive of the 2023 season played a major role in his tenure with the New York Jets being a failure. Rodgers' time in New York was highlighted by injuries and mediocrity, as the veteran had an underwhelming performance in 2024.

Steelers May Add Depth At Wide Receiver Very Soon

With both Metcalf and Austin solidified as Pittsburgh's top options, many feel like the Steelers are lacking depth in the wide receiver room. Pittsburgh recently acquired Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith in a deal with the Miami Dolphins, and Smith is expected to emerge as a reliable option as well. With multiple veterans remaining available in free agency, the Steelers have continued to find themselves linked to former Buffalo Bill Amari Cooper.

Steelers potential free agent target and ex-Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper is brought down by a Pittsburgh Steelers defender during a 2022 regular season matchup, following a reception in one of the NFLโ€™s most intense divisional rivalries.

Cooper, who was traded from the Cleveland Browns to the Bills in a midseason deal last year, is a solid receiver who could be an elite option behind Metcalf and Austin. A five time Pro Bowler, Cooper would instantly add a boost to Pittsburgh's offense and would aid in creating space for both Metcalf and Austin as well. Cooper is expected to emerge as a cheaper option, as the veteran finds himself still without a team just weeks before the start of the preseason.

With Metcalf set to make a major impact throughout his first season in Pittsburgh, many believe that the Steelers' offense could be elite in 2025. Austin is expected to play a key role as well, as the rising star will look to shine entering his contract year. With training camp officially underway, fans should continue to keep a close eye on Pittsburgh's front office, as the team is rumored to still be active on the free agency market.
