The Pittsburgh Steelers are working extremely hard during 2025 training camp to get all of the new faces acquainted with the familiar ones. Plenty of moves were made throughout the offseason in the hopes of revamping a roster that needed to be mixed up. The highlight of the acquisitions will continue to be looked at as the one of Aaron Rodgers, a four-time MVP that is looking to embark on one final postseason run. The rapport he builds with his pass-catchers throughout the team development period will be critical, as many are still wondering who is going to step up to be the second option behind DK Metcalf.

Roman Wilson is going to be a very intriguing individual to keep an eye on after missing nearly the entirety of his rookie campaign. As a highly-touted prospect out of the University of Michigan, the wide receiver let a lot of fans down in 2024, which is why he is focused on having a significant role during his second professional season.
At practice on Thursday, Wilson went up against Joey Porter Jr. one-on-one, and while the pads weren't on, the wideout made sure to turn some heads while taunting Porter a little bit.
Big applause from the crowd, Roman catches one over JPJ for 6 and does the head top celebration haha. JPJ was slow to get up, I think he was pissed. ๐ฉ Great battle. #HereWeGo

It surely is good to see Wilson getting the better of a strong corner like Porter. Beat writers and fans alike all were in agreement on social media that it was potentially the highlight of 2025 training camp to this point.
And Roman Wilson just had what Iโd call his best highlight of camp so far, Mossing Joey Porter Jr. on a go-ball in 1-on-1s. Great body control, timing and ball skills. Right on his head. And Wilson let him know. pic.twitter.com/Wpq16pyx0U

If Wilson can find a way to make an impact sooner rather than later, that will only help an offensive unit that needs to take a step up in 2025. Rodgers leading the way will help, but some playmakers are going to need to seriously step up if the unit wants to perform at the highest level it has in years. Not many are talking about Wilson, but it appears as if he is starting to make a name for himself.

Everyone is well aware that Metcalf will, and should, be the top target for Rodgers. The duo has the potential to be one of the most lethal deep-ball threats in the NFL. The unit will have other options as well, and a combination of Wilson, Calvin Austin III, Pat Freiermuth and Jonnu Smith could provide some sparks that end up scaring opposing defenses.
The hope is that this play from Wilson is no fluke. If he continues to beat Porter in practice, and then displays a strong skillset in preseason games, the team could potentially have a new one-two punch with Wilson and Metcalf. Austin is entering the final year of his rookie deal, so he may not even be around after the 2025 campaign. Wilson's emergence would be a great development for the franchise.

Steelers Didn't Pay Metcalf To Run The Ball
Fans should be surprised if there is a lot more passing in an offense that features both Rodgers and Metcalf. A team wouldn't go out and offer up over $30 million per year to a pass-catcher simply to watch him block on the outside. Pittsburgh needs to take a jump offensively, and one individual that has the opportunity to help make that happen is Wilson, who is displaying confidence early on.
