The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the full swing of things at training camp ahead of the 2025 season, and the players just completed the organization's annual "Friday Night Lights" practice in Latrobe. Things got a little chippy as the players were in full pads, but overall the event is always great for the local community and the team as it engages with the fan base. It is a fun time of year with training camps going on for all 32 teams, but fans are always worried about injuries as players return to a full, football schedule. Pittsburgh hasn't had too many serious injuries, but there have been some concerning reports.

Steelers cornerback Cory Trice Jr. stands on the field during a 2023 training camp practice at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.
One player that went down on Friday night was third-year cornerback Cory Trice Jr. Trice has gone through a lot of injury woes already in his career, as he missed his entire rookie season in 2023 with a knee injury that he suffered during training camp.
He also missed some time during the 2024 season with a hamstring injury, and that is exactly what happened to him on Friday night at practice. Head Coach Mike Tomlin shared the news of the injury with the media at the end of the night, which was reported by Brooke Pryor.
CB Cory Trice sustained a hamstring injury and OL Calvin Anderson had a lower body injury in tonightβs practice, Tomlin says.

Joey Porter Jr. is day-to-day with an unspecified ailment.
The significance of the injury has not yet been clarified, but soft-tissue injuries are always hard to tell the severity of. Some players bounce back within a week, while it takes months for some. Hopefully this is an instance where Trice just needs a couple days off of practice, but it will be hard to tell until more information is provided.

While it is tough to see Trice go down again, the Steelers are not relying on him heavily. Pittsburgh brought in two new cornerbacks in Darius Slay and Jalen Ramsey during the 2025 offseason, with Joey Porter Jr. still being a starter on the outside.
Those three corners will likely be on the field on nearly every play, which will make it hard for a guy like Trice to see the field, barring an injury. He could still be used in some dime packages, but he won't be relied upon to play on the outside too much.
Trice looked good at times during the 2024 season, as he even sealed a victory for the Steelers during a Week 2 win over the Denver Broncos. He missed some time with a hamstring injury, but he did play in six games and recorded one interception and 21 total tackles along with two pass breakups.

Steelers' Joey Porter Jr. Also Dealing With An Injury
Porter is another cornerback that is dealing with an injury, although what the injury is has not been specified. The cornerback was in street clothes throughout practice on Friday night. Tomlin mentioned after practice that the young defender's status should be considered day-to-day, but it was his first time mentioning the injury. He did not say anything was wrong with Porter after practice on Thursday, so it is hard to determine when or how the injury occurred.
Tomlin did not seem too worried about the injury, so fans shouldn't be concerned. It sounds like Porter will return to the field soon, and it shouldn't hinder his availability for the preseason or the regular season. Trice's injury could be more serious, but no one will know until more information is provided by Tomlin or the team.
