The Pittsburgh Steelers have gotten underway at training camp, and itβs an exciting time of year for any football fan. Steelers fans are especially fired up to see what Aaron Rodgers still has left in the tank at 41 years old. With all the new star faces on the roster and a promising rookie class, there's no shortage of buzz surrounding this team heading into the season.

But while the spotlight often shines on the veterans and high draft picks, it's the undrafted free agents who usually face the steepest uphill battle. Making a 53-man NFL roster is no small feat, especially for those who didnβt hear their name called on draft night. Still, every year a few unknowns emerge and turn heads with their effort, playmaking ability, and consistency.

One name thatβs starting to gain traction at Steelers camp is wide receiver Roc Taylor. According to insiders closely watching practices, Taylor has been making the most of every opportunity. His physicality, sharp route running, and ability to make contested catches have reportedly stood out in a crowded receiver room. While itβs still early, Taylor is quickly becoming a name to watch as the preseason unfolds.

Taylor has looked really solid during the early stages of Steelers training camp. He carried that momentum into the Friday Night Lights practice and followed it up with another strong showing on Saturday. While videoing practices is technically not allowed, some brave fans have managed to sneak out clips.

In one of those videos, it appeared that Taylor made a spectacular one-handed catch. That kind of play doesnβt guarantee him a roster spot, but it certainly strengthens his case. It appears that Taylor has done it all during camp.

Taylor has also stood out with his downfield blocking, a trait that wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni clearly values. Physicality and effort in the run game can separate a fringe player from the rest, and Taylor has embraced that role. He has earned himself a real opportunity, but the wide receiver room remains crowded. It might not be the most explosive unit from top to bottom, but it has solid depth and remains serviceable.
Steelers' Roc Taylor Will Have Tough Time Trying To Make Roster
DK Metcalf will be the clear top target in the offense, while Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin III are expected to compete for the second and third wide receiver spots. Both have the ability to play on the outside, but each is most effective in the slot. Veteran Robert Woods is also still in the mix and believes he can contribute.

DK Metcalf (left) and Aaron Rodgers (right) are going to great lengths to establish chemistry this season for the Steelers.
Ben Skowronek is likely to make the team, and Scotty Miller could grab the final spot if the Steelers carry six receivers. That would make it difficult for Taylor to crack the 53-man roster, but if he continues to perform, the Steelers may decide to find a place for him.
If not, he would be a strong candidate for the practice squad and could be called up if injuries occur. This offense is going to need playmakers to emerge, and if Taylor proves to be a hidden gem, it could be a huge boost for a team chasing a Super Bowl in 2025.
For now, itβs exciting for Steelers fans to hear about Taylor making his push up the depth chart. Itβs never easy for an undrafted free agent, but it has proven possible on several occasions. Steelers running back Jaylen Warren is a great example of an undrafted free agent who carved out a meaningful role within the offense. Now Taylor will try to do the exact same.
