The Pittsburgh Steelers have dealt with a number of offensive issues throughout the entire course of 2025 training camp. Many feel as if the team lacks playmaking depth, as the narrative of late has been that the defense is elite, but the offense still struggles. Narratives change, however, because the Steelers' offense looked much better in the red zone during Thursday's joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while the defense found themselves as the ones struggling immensely this time around against the NFC foe.

The Steelers' offense in 2025 will now feature a 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers and an elite wide receiver one (WR1) in DK Metcalf. Many feel as if the unit will enter the season underrated, because Rodgers is still just a few seasons removed from his last MVP Award in 2021, and could be elite if fully healthy. Calvin Austin lll is expected to emerge as a dangerous target as well, as the rising star will look to make a lasting impact throughout the final year of his rookie deal (he just needs to get healthy).

With excitement and anticipation continuing to build around the Steelers' offense, insider Mark Kaboly took a moment on Kaboly + Mack to share his thoughts on the unit as a whole following their performance in the joint practice against the Bucs.

"This team looks unstoppable in the red zone," Kaboly stated.

Kaboly's comments are a great sign as many fans continue to voice their nervousness in starting a 41-year-old quarterback. Rodgers' recent injury history is concerning, but the veteran is expected to be fully recovered from a torn Achilles suffered in 2023. The Steelers' offense looked promising throughout the seven shots drill against the Bucs, as the offense beat the Bucs' defense by a score of 6-1 according to star tight end Pat Freiermuth.

Freiermuth is expected to play a key role in the red zone this season, with the star beginning the year as the Steelers' tight end one (TE1) alongside Jonnu Smith. Additionally, Smith may find himself taking on a key role in the red zone as the veteran tight end is an elite athlete that is able to play multiple positions on offense, including wide receiver. Pittsburgh has Darnell Washington at their disposal as well, with many fans believing the 6'7", 264 pound tight end could be an absolute nightmare for opposing defenses inside the 20-yard.

Steelers' DK Metcalf Expected To Be A Top Red Zone Option For Rodgers Throughout 2025

With multiple players set to make a major impact in the red zone throughout 2025, Metcalf is expected to emerge as Rodgers' favorite red zone target early on in the season. Metcalf, who was acquired in a deal with the Seattle Seahawks earlier in the offseason, is an elite wide receiver that could find himself having a career year with Rodgers as his quarterback. Metcalf was credited with a career low five touchdowns last season, with many believing that a duo of Rodgers and Metcalf could quickly become a top red zone threat in all of football.

A six-year veteran, Metcalf has remained as an elite red zone target throughout his entire career. He was credited with 48 total touchdowns during his time in Seattle, as the veteran ranks seventh all-time for the most touchdowns in Seahawks history. Metcalf should thrive with Rodgers throwing him the football, as the veteran will look to continue his red zone success throughout his first season in Pittsburgh.

With Rodgers and the rest of the Steelers' offense set to be an elite red zone threat throughout 2025, the team is hoping the narrative can continue to change and tilt in a positive direction. Red zone success for Pittsburgh could be the key difference from 2024's offense that propels this season's unit into a deep playoff run.
