The Pittsburgh Steelers are a team that has been discussed repeatedly when it comes to organizations that could be looking to add at the wide receiver position. Fans have speculated that the franchise might look to add a veteran free agent, with the two names being mentioned the most being Gabe Davis and Amari Cooper. Davis has already been to Pittsburgh on a visit, but that visit did not lead to a deal as the organization had some health concerns.

Davis made a name for himself during his time with the Buffalo Bills, and he then signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars after the 2023 season. Things did not work out in Jacksonville as Davis suffered a knee injury and was eventually released, and he has been recovering from his injury as he has been looking for his next home. He is coming back to Pittsburgh for another visit with the organization, which could lead to a deal if the visit goes well.

The wide receiver was only able to play in nine games for the Jaguars in 2024, and he scored two touchdowns while recording nearly 250 yards through the air. He is looking to bounce back and get his career back on track, which is something that could be done in Pittsburgh. A potential deal with Davis would probably be relatively cheap, and it would likely only be a one-year contract. This would allow Davis to remind the NFL what he is capable of, while also giving him the chance to sign a bigger deal after the season.

Steelers Have Injury Concerns At Wide Receiver
Pittsburgh needs some help at wide receiver, especially with Calvin Austin III going through an injury. He has missed weeks of practice, which would likely make Roman Wilson the second wide receiver if Austin is not healthy soon. Wilson has played well in the preseason, but Pittsburgh probably wants to get some insurance for that room going into the regular season, which is where Davis comes into play. Wilson has taken steps forward throughout training camp, but his injury history makes adding another wide receiver something that probably needs to happen before the regular season begins.

Davis has also played in some big games throughout his career in the NFL. When he was in Buffalo he was apart of some playoff runs that featured some historic clashes with the Kansas City Chiefs. This type of experience and exposure is valued by the organization in Pittsburgh, which could be a key reason the franchise may want to sign him. It is all going to come down to whether or not Davis is healthy and fully healed from his knee injury, but if he is, a signing should probably be coming after the visit on Tuesday.
If the veteran wide receiver is signed, hopefully he will be able to come into Pittsburgh and make an impact right away. He has worked with good quarterbacks before, so it shouldn't be difficult for him to get on the same page as a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers. If Davis is signed he wouldn't see the field until the regular season begins, as Pittsburgh plays its final preseason game on Thursday and Davis is visiting on Tuesday. There is not enough time to learn the playbook and get acclimated enough to play, and Pittsburgh would probably want to be cautious with his knee.
