The Pittsburgh Steelers' wide receiver position is a bit of concern heading into the 2025 season. This comes after the team pulled off a blockbuster trade to bring in star wide receiver DK Metcalf, signaling their intent to strengthen the passing game. However, the excitement was tempered when the Steelers quickly traded away their own star, George Pickens, sending him to the Dallas Cowboys. The moves have left Pittsburgh with a significantly restructured receiving corps and questions about depth and consistency at the position.

As the Steelers prepare for a 2025 NFL season led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, their top wide receiver options now include Metcalf, Roman Wilson, and Calvin Austin III. While Metcalf brings proven production and elite talent, Wilson and Austin are younger players still developing their roles and consistency in the offense. The combination creates a mix of high-end talent and potential, but it also leaves the team with limited proven options beyond the top tier, making additional reinforcements a potential necessity.
Steelers insider Gerry Dulac recently revealed in his chat that Pittsburgh could have interest in 29-year-old wide receiver Hunter Renfrow. Renfrow’s experience and reliability could provide the Steelers with a steady veteran presence, helping to ease some of the uncertainty in the receiving room.
"I would with Renfrow," Dulac told his chat.
The veteran wide receiver has strong interest from the Carolina Panthers, who want to bring him back. However, NFL insider Tom Pelissero revealed that several other teams are also interested in Renfrow.

He is seriously weighing his options. It remains to be seen if the Steelers are one of those teams, but it’s safe to assume they have some level of interest.

Adding a player like Renfrow could complement Metcalf while giving Rodgers another dependable target, particularly in key situations where precision and experience are critical. The coming weeks will reveal whether the Steelers take action to address the position further, but Renfrow’s name is certainly one to watch.
Renfrow was a Pro Bowler in the 2021 NFL season, recording 103 receptions for 1,038 receiving yards and scoring nine touchdowns. Unfortunately, he struggled to replicate that level of success in the following seasons and missed the entire 2024 season due to a serious health scare. Renfrow was battling a severe case of ulcerative colitis, a chronic digestive illness that kept him off the field.
Steelers Could Seriously Use Hunter Renfrow In The 2025 NFL Season
Now he is back and healthy, and many are curious about what he still has left in his tank. While he may not be the same wide receiver he was in 2021, if Renfrow can approach even a fraction of that production, he could provide the missing piece to the Steelers’ wide receiver puzzle.

The Steelers are not necessarily looking for a superstar. They are seeking veteran reliability and consistency. In that regard, Renfrow fits the mold perfectly, offering the experience and steadiness that Dulac believes the team could use to bolster its receiving corps. With the 2025 season continuing to inch closer, all eyes remain on General Manager Omar Khan to see if he is going to bolster this wide receiver corps even further.
