Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf will play crucial roles on the Pittsburgh Steelers' offensive unit in 2025. The Steelers traded for Metcalf and signed Rodgers to a one-year deal in the offseason, signaling the start of a new deep threat duo in the Steel City. Metcalf signed a four-year $132 million deal with the Steelers directly after the trade, and could be the Steelers' top playmaker throughout the next four seasons.

Metcalf was elite during his time with the Seattle Seahawks. The veteran ranks seventh all time for most touchdowns in Seahawks history and should have no problem producing at the same level in Pittsburgh. The former Seahawk will benefit from playing with Rodgers as well, as the duo could easily find themselves among the best deep ball threats in the entire NFL.

Some people believe that Metcalf could have a career year in 2025, as The Athletic's Mike DeFabo recently came out with a report sharing their excitement surrounding both veterans.

"Throughout training camp, quarterback Aaron Rodgers continuously targeted Metcalf in this period." DeFabo wrote. "Rodgers still has the lightning-quick release to throw the ball into tight windows, especially near the goal line. Metcalf's 6-foot-4, 230 pound frame and physical playing style has helped him beat defensive backs on slants, outs and other quick hitters. The fact that the Steelers don't have a clear-cut No. 2 receiver also helps Metcalf's cause."

DeFabo continued to write about the Steelers' depth at wide receiver, where the analyst claims entering the season with no true number two option will work in Metcalf's favor.

"Without a lot of depth at the position, Metcalf should see a significant target share- maybe even a career best- in this new look Steelers' offense."

The Steelers currently have Calvin Austin lll as their second option behind Metcalf, but Austin's status for Week 1 remains in the air. Austin should benefit from playing behind Metcalf and could find himself having a career year as well, as the promising receiver will look to make an impact throughout the final season of his rookie deal. Metcalf solidified himself as the Steelers' top playmaking option from the moment he got here and could quickly become a top receiver in 2025 while working with Rodgers.

At 6'4" 229 pounds, Metcalf is one of the most athletic receivers in the NFL. The veteran has been an elite playmaker throughout his entire six year career and may truly benefit by catching passes from a quarterback of Rodgers' caliber. Rodgers is a four-time MVP and future Hall Of Fame quarterback that is expected to target Metcalf very often in 2025.

Steelers' Rodgers And Metcalf Could Be Entering 2025 As One Of The Most Underrated Duos In Football

Rodgers drew a number of mixed reactions when he signed his one year deal with the Steelers. Many felt as if the veteran is too old, and his torn Achilles in 2023 was a major factor in their concerns. Rodgers is still just three seasons removed from winning his last MVP award in 2021 and will now find himself throwing to one of the best wideouts in the NFL.

Metcalf could be among the league leaders in targets throughout 2025. The Rodgers-Metcalf duo has flown under the radar during the entire offseason, but the veterans' could send a major message to the league with a promising Week 1 performance. Both offensive weapons are set to make their Steelers' debut next Sunday against the New York Jets in Week 1 at MetLife Stadium.

Both Metcalf and Rodgers are set to put the league on notice throughout 2025. The Steelers will begin the season with one of the more underrated offensive units in the NFL. A hot start next Sunday in New Jersey will be crucial, as Rodgers will look to shine against his former team.
